Starting a thread here because, well, Santa Clara will start the basketball season in the “Others Receiving Votes” category in the AP Poll. It’s just a single vote but a rare honor for the Broncos in the last multiple decades.

> The Gators are the preseason No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 poll for the first time since 2006.

AP is a coaches poll, right? So this was likely Herb?

Negative. AP (Associated Press) is a media poll. So the voters include pundits and personalities from ESPN, CBS, and a bunch of local media members (like the Merc’s Jon Wilner). You can see the individual ballots [here using the drop down list](https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-basketball-poll). One point means that a voter put the Broncos at 25, but I can’t see which voter without clicking on each voter.

Here’s the [Coaches Poll](https://sportsdata.usatoday.com/basketball/ncaab/coaches-poll/2026/2026-10-19) that you’re thinking of. No mention of the Broncos, and Herb isn’t a voter. Shantay Legans from Portland represents the WCC on the poll.

I’m not certain, but I don’t think coach-voters can pick their own teams and potentially are even blocked from picking teams in their conference.

David Jablonski from the Dayton Daily News voted for us per College Poll Tracker
