SCU has announced the new WBB coach, Loree Payne. Payne was the HC at Northern Arizona, who were a damn good bunch to be honest. Seems like a really solid hire. The Lumberjacks posted 20 or more wins the last 3, including 27 this year

This is the new template for success in the NIL/portal era: hire a coach with success at a lower division or level of the sport and import their staff and players. It’s worked great for Michigan and Drake, been at least an improvement for Cal Poly, and been mostly a bust at SLU. Hopefully the success can continue at SCU. The last coach named Payne did a great job and continues to be a very successful coach in Boulder.

The last player we had named Payne ended up being our best lock-down defender on the men’s squad in at least 25 years, if not more. Troy was a joy to watch.
