25-26 WCC Game #14: Seattle U

Loyola I think. We were like -17.

I am nervous!

winner winner chicken dinner. Also -13,5

I tried to have AI look in the all-time history to see if there were any other such losses and it came up empty but hedged that it was only able to access public information and databases.

The loss to eighth place LMU in the WCC tournament in the Nash years could’ve been one with a larger spread.

The Loss to LMU in the 2012 conference tourney would be up there… that LMU team had 1 conference win before Vegas. They rattled off two consecutive and beat us for their third win in three nights.

Great energy to start. The crowd is not inspiring (by the look in tv), though. @getnashty can’t do it all on his own!

Buy @GetNashty a few more beers and I believe he CAN do it on his own!

Santa Clara missed so many first half shots, so I’m not feeling big nerves yet. But I would like a better fallback than Bukky 3s.

And there it is! 17:25 left in 2nd half.

Bukky with a comically unnecessary reach-in foul 80 feet from the basket!

Death, taxes, and Bukky with a reach-in foul!

CalTrain privilege means I can have as many beers as I want  I’m right behind the Bronco bench… might pass one to Caruso

I think if they take the lid off the hoop, SCU can pull away.

Some of the rolls Seattle has gotten in this late game stretch has been wild.

Just win.

Awesome final defensive possession. The team is ready for Gonzaga.

13 sets the ā€œmodernā€ record for WCC wins, with 4 games still to go.

Also…just 3 TOs?! Pretty great against a top defense.

Stat of the day:

We have had 6 different leading scorers in our last 6 games.

i was 5 rows up from you in my regular seats. Had i been looking at the board i would have sought you out. I will miss zag game (i seem to always miss it) but lets connect at OSU.

Darlan had ZERO turnovers and just two fouls in 16 minutes of play. Two points and 2 rebounds as well.

We survived thanks to sash and graves . Too many circus shots in the first half

Seattle is a pesky team. Yeo, the former Zag, is a good player. Broncos did a nice job of cutting to the basket tonight, especially Hammond. Mahi tried to do too much at times off the dribble, but was really effective as a passer. Sash was feeling it and we needed him. I thought every Bronco that saw the floor contributed tonight.

So, what’s everyone got planned for Valentine’s Day, er evening?

Go Broncos!!!

I didn’t see the game as was too late as I’m in Toronto but the one stat that shocks me as Patty said was 3 turnovers and against 20 assists. When was the last time we had 3 turnovers or less!! That has been consistently been one of our undoings over the past decade so to see us minimize turnovers is great. We are stacking wins and now onto Gonzaga!

The lack of turnovers on our part was great. I also note that we had 17 points off turnovers and SU had 0. That’s a winning margin right there!

The crazy thing about this season is we lost our entire starting 5 from last year, had to medical redshirt two of our incoming transfers…yet here we are at 13-1 in conference with Sash being the only player contributing (*edited to add Darlan) that was not a member of the program last year. Makes me intrigued about Badibanga and Longcor’s development this season.

Weave - no guarantee yet on the OSU game but I will try to make it.

To Bob’s point, go read some of the season previews and remind yourself just how much this team has exceeded expectations!

We are all frustrated with the LUC game, but this Bronco team has done something extraordinary since then - we’ve won 13 of 14 and are undefeated at home.

Every Bronco team I can remember has dropped some dumb games, its the nature of college basketball. That said, it’s evident this team looked inward after ASU and LUC and said ā€œwe’re not going to do that againā€. And they haven’t.

A post recently referred to ā€œGlory Daysā€ - I think its worth pausing and looking around right now - there’s some distance left to go, but this year will likely be counted among the ā€˜good ones’ for a long time to come. Santa Clara being good at basketball is no longer a historical quirk in dusty record book - it’s happening in real time.

I’m seeing more SCU hats and shirts in my neighborhood than I remember for a long time.

Now we’ve got two chances in the next four to convert ā€˜pretty dang good’ to Bronco immortality.

What a great ride.
