Gritty win thanks to free throws and 3 pointers. Still taking too many 3 pointers. Tilly should not be dribbling at the top of key so much

Was waiting to re-up my espn+ until this team showed something. I will gladly take this win and cannot believe we were +180 ML in Vegas.

The effort is consistently there. If they can hit a decent percentage of unforced threes, make their FTs, and play with the energy they showed tonight, they’ll be fine.

Keep the ball moving and don’t let the three be your first and last resort.

The difference between this game and the Stanford/NDSU games was more poise on the floor and at the line. Being bigger played an increasing role as well.

did what they had to do, glad they got out unscathed. Keep stacking days

A bit like the TCU win. Nothing exceptional about the performance but did enough to win.

The difference was the unglamorous stuff…rebounding and FT shooting. +10 on rebounds though we gave up more Off Rebs than desirable. And 18/19 FT shooting, 95%.

And Bryan was big in the 2nd half.

The problem I saw was the turnover differential. We committed 15 turnovers the McNeese State’s 8.

The turnover problem dates back at least 15 years. I noticed it first under KK, and I really don’t see much change save for the occasional clean game. Like most sports, sloppy possessions and negative turnover differential usually = losses.

Thankfully, in this game, free throw shooting differential (attempts and %) and rebounding (Cam especially, his rebounds/minute played was high) were the difference.

Entertaining game, but as the adage goes, “you play as you practice”.

I see a lot of 1v1 ball, standing around on the perimeter hoping to get passed to, and torero defense. With the exception of the in-bound play with 1 minute remaining, our defense needs a lot of work.

Quality screens paired with an actual offense that has continuous motion like Princeton/Flex/or whatever variants needed would be a good idea. Otherwise any team we play with comparable talent - which incorporates these elements into their game - will dismantle us.

I don’t have much to add except that Tyeree Bryan was really awesome in that game. Should he get the start over Bal next game?

Also, McNeese had a 20-game win streak at home which was just broken by Santa Clara. That’s pretty cool. McNeese is a pretty good team, and that will probably finish as a Quad 1 victory if McNeese can get back to where they ought to be. McNeese and SCU are having similarly ugly starts after high preseason expectations.

Not a bad suggestion to have Tyree start over Bal and let’s have Cam start over O’Neil and put fire under both those guys.

All four are quality players. But let’s really make these guys fight for their position. Will make them all that much more aggressive.

Maybe Tyree vs O’Neil. Here are the lineup ratings for starting Tyree. O’Neil is a good rebounder but his shooting has been “off” to be polite.
With O’Neil.

With Tyree.

Scoring and Turnovers have been issues. Tyree is good there.

The eye test says both O’Neil and Bal should rise the pines for awhile.

My take is Sendek is blinded by Bal’s supposed potential rather than objectively weighing how he performs here and now. As such, unless Bal displays terrible effort and/or a bad attitude, Sendek will not pull him from the starting lineup.

For those he didn’t notice the finishing lineup over the last several minutes vs. McNeese St. was mostly Till, Mahi, Bal, Bryan, Stewart. Make sense given the smaller but athletic McNeese lineup, allowed us to match up better is one of the most athletic lineups we can put on the floor at the 1 through 4 spots. And the way O’Neil has been shooting, you don’t lose anything on offense anyhow.

Do the coaches not tell O’Neil to try and find scoring from within the arc? Its baffling to watch him just stand on the 3 pt line as a 6’10" player. Its irrelevant whether he and the coaches think he is a “good shooter” or not, the results simply aren’t there and we have enough of a sample size now.
