Of note: just ONE transfer allowed

The bill must now pass the House. Trump has already said he will sign the bill into law if/when it passes the House.

I think the House is about to recess, I don’t think they get back to DC until after the elections. So will probably take more time than anyone really wants to wait.

What are the bill’s implications for SCU?

Excellent question. I plan on asking at this event on Friday. Santa Clara University. I believe it is Open to anyone who wants to go, not just reunion goers.

I’d also like to know what the ADs crystal ball says when Power 5 conference media rights are up in 2032. Hot mess.

My guess is that there will be movement toward a super league for football, perhaps already a schism from the NCAA would have happened. The super league will get sued by the left behinds. Then ultimately something akin to the English football league hierarchy will get established. Maybe San Jose State could become the next Wrexham.

Not sure how that will play out for basketball.

I honestly wouldn’t be too put off by an English soccer league system. At least that would end the awful body bag games.

An English pyramid is so interesting to me and I think there would be positives and negatives, but at least there would be STRUCTURE.

pros:

  • play with teams with the same resources you have
  • Ability to loan or monetize players leaving for bigger, greener (in a money sense) pastures

Cons:

  • structural overhaul and probably the loss of a lot of minnows who won’t be able to turn a profit from viewership and pay to play games, but I’d argue that selling/loaning rights of players would help stabilize these smaller budget schools.
  • This wouldn’t truly be a “pyramid” as I don’t think schools could get promoted/relegated, since players and coaches are only around for a year or two

This is probably all just hopeful thinking. Instead we will probably continue to just have consistently changing laws and “rules” until the general public loses interest. I saw viewership of college football is down -12% year over year vs 2025 season.

Hadn’t considered the loan system. That would be more cringier than the way things work now.
