Lions played really good defense so give them credit as did SCU IMO. 4 of 26 says it all, but I thought there were opportunities for mid range shots. Tilly was great tonight, but just didn’t get any help.
Tough loss as we head to Spokane

I have never seen a Santa Clara team that had so many guys completely no show on the offensive side of the ball before. Blame has to rest with the coaches and players. Just look at the box score. Almost unbelievable to look at the lack of production from what should be reliable offensive contributors.
Tilly racked up the points tonight on the give and go. No idea why we would stop working that. Those threes at the end of a night of horrific shooting - you’d think we’d stay with what was working.
Time for Herb and his staff to hang it up. Its obvious the the players are undisciplined and that’s a coaching issue. Were mediocre at best and that’s been the case the past 9 seasons. I never thought I’d be writing this season off before the end of January, but I have. And If you’re expecting things to get better, I don’t see that happening under the current regime. See you all in the fall of 2025…
Woke up to this result….ugh.
….die by the 3.
A combined 6 points from Stewart/Bryan/Mahi and a combined 0/12 from 3 wasting a great 25pt offensive night from Tilly.
And Torvik summarizes it……worst adjusted Off rating of the season by a wide margin, the Nevada game is the only other in the vicinity. Bad 3pt shooting translates to terrible eFG% of 39% and compounded by a low FT attempt rate, just 10 attempts.
Watched highlights and late game possessions. Once again we can’t or don’t run any effective sets to get guys looks in key possessions in the final 3-5 minutes of the game. Why is Ensminger in the game on the final possession when you need a 3???
And while we out rebounded the Lions for the game, we gave up 3 key offensive rebounds down the stretch and the Lions converted on a few of those 2nd chance opportunites.
What a frustrating result. Jacking up 26 threes and making just 4. LMU shot same percentage but attempted 30% less from 3 and worked it more inside.
We are not a great 3pt team but we think we are. Lazy basketball, maybe we are out of shape and don’t feel like attacking the rim and our free throws were on last night. If I was LMU and we were shooting like that, yes let us be wide open on 3 as we miss anyway. Frustrating.
I wonder if Herb has ever read Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War”. Based on what I’ve seen on the court, I sincerely doubt it.
If we had gone just 6 for 26 from three we could have won.
What a frustrating game.
I’ll give LMU some credit for playing physical, hard nosed D and overplaying the ball and passing lanes. When a team overplays the ball and pressures weakside passing lanes, the remedy is to go to the basket. Perhaps this is news to Sendek. If not then why the hell wasn’t he yanking kids and giving them an earful for taking contested fall away treys???
Honestly it’s like this team doesn’t understand basketball, or the guy that’s directing them doesn’t.
Beyond frustrating.
