Assuming BK’s injury is relatively minor and he won’t be out more than a few games if at all, Tadjo’s injury and absence is the one that really hurts. We’re already thin on true posts/frontcourt players and Tadjo is on the only muscle we have at 250lbs. With Tadjo out, Graves is the next heaviest guy at just 225lbs. The top WCC teams (GU, SMC and USF) plus several of the mid-tier (WSU and OSU) all have good size (in some cases tremendous size) and some skilled posts. Our ability to defend the post and rebound in the WCC will tested if Tadjo is unavailable. SMC is huge with two 7’+, 250+ centers, GU is big, Ike and Huff are tough to stop in the post and Diagne dominated against us in our 2nd game against them in league play.
Tadjo is also a very good athlete, I see him as a Cam replacement and with a lot of upside. Even if he went the minor surgery route and returns mid-season, this delays his development and opportunity to acclimate to the system and new teammates.
Hopefully Cochran’s issue wasn’t serious.
One more WCC Preview as the season (officially) begins, this time from Mid-Major Madness.
It’s pretty brief, but hey, there’s a lot more than in the S.F. Chronicle preview which doesn’t merit linking.
So just heard it’s official Chris Tadjo is out for the season. But good news is KJ Cochran is back practicing and will probably only miss the Humboldt game.
Noah & Bradley are being redshirted
Not good. Looks like the Broncos are going to be a small ball squad for much of the time. This puts an enormous amount of weight on the shoulders of Oboye and Graves. I assume that Ensminger will be a 4/5 almost exclusively and that Mahi or Darlan will be moved down to the 4 for regular minutes. That could work on offense, but Huff and Ike loom.
My annual rant: why why why do we schedule afternoon home games? TV?
The game vs. Nevada on Saturday is a 4pm tilt.
USD and SMC at home are 4pm starts. WAZZU at home 5pm.
It’s bad enough we have to play neutral courts games vs. SLU and ASU at 4pm.
Don’t even get me started with @OSU and @WSU at 3pm ![]()
