I’m honestly okay with Tilly out. Smoked way too many layups and didn’t rise to the occasion enough. Did a lot of good things but didn’t take anyone’s breath away.
Keeping BK, Tyeree, Jake, Elijah, and Graves is a good spot to start

I’m still pissed that we’re NOT talking about UC Irvine, and discussing the transfer portal. AGAIN, we blew another large lead at home. Maybe, Tilly said quite frankly, “I have one more shot to play in the NCAA tournament, and it won’t happen here!”. There isn’t one player to blame for last night’s collapse.
This team does many things really well offensively and on the glass. However, there is no defensive identity with this program. The word tenacious and physical don’t come to mind with respect to our defense. We don’t create alot of turnovers. We have a bunch of great kids that play hard, but no true floor leader.
Lastly, if I asked all of you that Herb Sendek will get us two 1st round draft picks, one NIT win, and zero NCAA appearances in 9 years…
Would you take it ?
Sadly I probably would have taken that nine years ago.
My first year on campus was the winless in conference play season under Keating. I would take that offer in a heartbeat.
It’s not a matter of Sendek vs Keating. However, for the sake of argument, each has had 9 seasons under their belt.
What do they have in common? Neither has gotten SCU to the dance. At what point, do you turn the page? Hell, Dick Davey was forced out and his last team was co-conference champions and he had three trips to the dance.
I’d like to see a guy like Lloyd Pierce get a shot, former Bronco, defensive minded coach.
They should have hired Lloyd instead of Sendek. I don’t think he would take the job now.
Per Verbal Commits, Kosy enters the portal. He did last year as well, but I can’t imagine that he stays again. I think both parties probably realize it’s for the best.
It’s not Huff who’s the first Zag to exit. It’s Dusty Stromer.
Portland’s Max McKinnon is in the portal, meaning that Legans has to start over completely for like the third straight season. I feel for him.
A rash of Pacific players are in now, as well as a couple more USD guys. But both Pacific and USD have at least some of their main core sticking around.
Tinkle is at least keeping his guys together in advance of their postseason tournament, unlike David Riley. So far, no Gaels, Dons, or Beavers. Everyone else has a casualty, and only GU has yet to lose a starter.
It’s just Day 1 folks…
Stromer makes more sense that Huff. With Gregg graduating, there will be plenty of PT available for Huff at the 4 or 5.
Sorry Patty,
I didn’t mean to air my grievances on the transfer portal thread.
Appreciate the updates. Thanks!
No worries. I just made a Season-in-Review thread. Feel free to post general frustrations and/or hopes there.
Interestingly, Verbal Commits shows Tilly as both entering the transfer portal and “offered” by Santa Clara. Not sure if that is a clerical error or not, but if it isn’t, that certainly screams the games (strategies) being employed in the NIL era.
Santa Clara won’t be paying what the others are offering. That April 04 ruling gave carte Blanche to Power Conf
I noticed that too. I’m assuming it’s a clerical error but also that Tilly has a dollar amount in mind. VCU’s Max Shulga was going to transfer until they threw him enough money for him to stay. But I agree with 'femme that the amount that Tilly is likely to fetch at an ACC school is much more than what SCU will offer or potentially even be able to offer.
Agree re great breakdown of Tilly by 92B. I see him as quite serviceable, but equally likely to both disappoint and impress. To his credit, he’s definitely improved and I hope he gets a worthwhile payday.
Welcome to Day 2 of the (Official) Transfer Portal. The only WCC updates today are that we’ve lost two more Pilots and another Torero. Lavin’s squad was so haphazardly assembled and ran so deep with walk-ons and frosh players, that even with all of the transfers, they are still maintaining most of their major role players so far.
Portland is another story. The Pilots are down to 4 scholarship players: 3 frosh and 1 junior. You have to wonder if Legans has let them know that he won’t be coaching next season and is just waiting for the assistant hiring carousel at the Final Four to make that announcement public.
Oregon State’s Michael Rataj has entered the transfer portal. Maybe Jake can recruit him to the Broncos
I don’t understand why the CBC chose to play their tournament after the transfer portal opened. It leaves coaches guessing what type of team they will have and diminishes the excitement with key players leaving and therefore unavailable…Bad move, timing wise!!
My belief is that it is the best window for TV. Both the men’s and women’s brackets are down to 4 teams. The other tournaments are done. It’s like mid-week MAC football. Schedule them where they ain’t.
I wonder if the transfer portal will get moved to after the Final Four. It’s not like football where the window is open when it is so “students” can enroll in time for their new school semester. There is no good spot for hoops. The portal is in the middle of the semester no matter where it is, and only makes sense currently if all schools were on the quarter system.
Nate Kingz out at OSU as well. Now both Cougars and Beavers are losing starters before they even finish their season.
Another Zag, the Korean prospect who never quite made the floor, Jun Seok Yeo, is leaving Spokane.
Keep eyes on Tyree Bryan. He’s longing to get back to Florida.
