2025 Transfer Portal

Did they … edit out the Gaels logo from her jersey in the post?

These are strange times in college sports.

Tyeree has committed to Texas Tech

Two for two to Power 5 conferences so far—at least we identify and develop talent. I’m more bummed about Tyeree. I pictured him having a great season for the Broncos.

If the Power 5 conferences are analogous to the NBA, then SCU plays in the G-League.

I was thinking somewhat analogously, but I harkened back to the Kansas City A’s providing talent to the Yankees ( when I was very young).

DAAAAAAMMMMMNNNNN Cardoza, you make me feel young! (well in my mind…my bones don’t feel young)

The mind is a good place to start.

I’m bummed to lose Tyeree as well.
But what softens the blow slightly for me is that as of Fall, 2024 we expected the 2024/25 season to be his last season of eligibility. The court ruling related to JUCO players changed the calculus and opened the door for Tyeree and others to get another season.

I wish him well and will be keeping an eye on his season at TTech.

Pepperdine’s Dovydas Butka entered the portal today. Can’t believe players are still entering the transfer portal.

I heard Tilly will be receiving $1.3 million in NIL from OSU

I don’t know if anyone on the board is privy to this, but what is a player like Mahi receiving in NIL from SCU? Anyone care to guess? The advent of NIL is forcing mid majors to swim upstream.

It will be interesting how we fill out this roster and players of impact…hopefully :folded_hands:

650k was what I had heard.

'femme or Lucas (as you seem to be in the know)-
Not asking you to name names or divulge specific terms and details but…
What’s the most a player rec’d this past season or two?
What’s the ballpark range that regular playing rotation level guys rec’d?
I think others have thrown around figures of a Bronco NIL budget approaching ~$4M though not sure if that was future and significant jump from this season and past. But just curious how the money is getting spread around.
ie- $500k to a couple of starters, $100-250k for other rotation guys and ~$25-50k for everyone else???

Cedric Coward, who I assumed didn’t have eligibility left but will probably get a medical redshirt, is now in the portal. He was a dark horse WCC POY candidate early on. Coward has a Do Not Contact designation, indicating that he already has his landing spot figured out.

Also in Wazzu world, Isaiah Watts committed to Maryland.

There’s still almost two weeks of portal entries ahead, though the names are slowing considerably.

No specific updates for the WCC in the transfer portal as far as I can see this morning. But there’s a pretty clear and predictable trend: it’s good to have (a) money and (b) momentum. But mostly it’s good to have money.

Aside from USF’s three commits, (including Riley), there are precious few players joining the WCC next season as of right now.

Gonzaga has courted at least half a dozen top transfers who have all gone elsewhere. Basically, silence from SCU and SMC. Wazzu and Oregon State have more media exposure, so it can be a little easier to track their movements, but even so they’ve basically done nothing but lose players to the portal so far.

The teams that are currently loading up on top transfers are teams like Michigan, BYU, Louisville, and Kentucky that have lots of money and relatively new coaches with some momentum. Scanning the portal updates shows that Power schools are all sort of competing against each other right now with just a smattering of commitments to schools outside of the most well-funded 30-40 schools.

I’m guessing that the players are all waiting until their agent tells them that “$1.4 million from UCLA just isn’t happening this season” and they start to look seriously at the actual offers in front of them. Sports has always been made of dreams, and now the dream of a huge payday exists right alongside the dream of playing in the Tournament and is maybe more important to many of the players.

I was curious what would happen w/ Coward and was kind of surprised he didn’t enter the portal early…now we know. We never saw him in WCC play but he is quite talented as Patty noted may have competed for WCC POY.

Not surprisingly, most of the WCC departures who have signed are higher end guys, nearly all starters and several all-WCC’ers. Low minutes or end of bench guys haven’t signed. And most have signed w/ Power conf schools. Again…that’s where the money is so not surprising. It will continue to be interesting over the next month, there will likely still be some late movement from better players like Coward.
What will be interesting is if there will be some very talented guys who get left out in the cold, don’t get the $ they were hoping for and end up settling. Some of the better WCC guys still on the market:

  • LeJuan Watts and Nate Calmese from WSU
  • Demarco Minor, Farrah and Lelevicius from OSU
  • Pacific’s Elijah Fisher

USD’s Jamerson is currently showing as ‘Offered’ by USD so maybe he is returning??? And USD did sign 6-3 guard Adrian McIntyre, a D-2 transfer from Westmont but appears to be high level player, he was a D-2 All-American and averaged 28pts/game…he won’t do that at D1 but safe to say the young man can score.

With thousands of players in the portal it seems futile to play arm chair GM and speculate or target certain guys. But amongst the WCC players, some guys who would be intriguing and worthwhile additions for the Broncos:

  • OSU 6-9 post Maxim Logue. Saw him play a little, a gifted athlete, a bit raw but could be a good replacement for Cam. Was surprised Tinkle didn’t play him more.
  • Portland’s Vukasin Masic - solid shooter, good guard size at 6-5 and 5th or 6th year player so could provide a veteran presence in what is, aside from Knapper, a very young backcourt. While more of 2 guard, Masic did play the point guard some for Portland.
  • Some of the guys I mentioned above from WSU and OSU would also be good targets but I suspect they have their eyes on Power Conf schools whether they get big $ or not.

Have contacted Villanova transfer Aleksander Gavalyugov along with many other schools.

I’ll try not to read to much into being the first school listed. But PG with a bunch of eligibility left seems like it fits the Broncos’ need. High ranking recruit a year ago but still unproven with limited college minutes and potentially probe to injury. Would be a good get still, I think.

A few weeks after the season ends…and again, hope springs eternal

Is Christan Hammond sticking around? Was looking forward to him stepping up.

Broncos are losing: Bal, Stewart, O’Neil, & Tongue to eligibility.

The team is also losing Bryan to Texas Tech and Tilly to Thee Ohio State University
Akametu is still looking along with McEldon

The team will activate the 3 from the recruiting class (who I doubt will redshirt but maybe because the the team looks guard heavy)

G KJ Cochrane
G Bradley Longcor
C Francis Chukwudebelu

Then you have redshirts that from last year:
G Christian Hammond
F Allen Graves

You add the current core:
G Brenton Knapper
F ElijahMahi
F Jake Ensminger
C Bukky Oboye

Am I missing anybody?

I think there is room in both the frontcourt and backcourt.

Definitiely think the Broncos may benefit from a
Mismatch piece like a big body guard or a 3 point shooting big.

Mahi double dips into that need of a big body gaurd as a forward. Theres alot of ball handling; I would love to see the team maintain 3 point shooting.

Thoughts?
