I don’t know this for sure, but I wonder if guys are doing that incase our current administration signs an executive order into effect. The proposed “5 for 5” idea says you have five years to play five seasons starting at age 19 or after high school graduation.
There have been a couple of other guys to do this I believe.
Yesss!!! We love this. He is a savvy left combo guard who is well balanced passer and 3 level scorer. We have alot of production to replace. This would a solid first step if he commits.

Gotta show Money the money.
On the positive side, Money Williams tested the NBA Draft waters last year so he clearly has that possibility in mind for his future. Jdub, Podz, and even Adama can only help in that regard. As good as Longcor will be, and assuming Cochran makes a big jump — we still will have a ton of minutes to offer at the guard position.
On the negative side, St.Mary’s hired the Montana Associate Head Coach so they might have the inside track if SEC $$$ does not entice Williams. I don’t know the NIL amounts available to St. Mary’s versus us, but it would certainly be disappointing if we lost ANY bidding war to the Gaels.
Missouri is also far more competitive in his decision making process because it gives him good exposure, competition, and NIL opportunity.
I wish we could compete with the like of a Money Williams and a Massamba Diop. Those two alone would be a load in the WCC.
Just read that former Bronco Luke McEldon committed to Northwestern
There are rumors circulating that Bukky was asking for $2.5 million and that an SEC school is willing to pay that amount.
Now I think it’s important in forum moderation, as it is in life, to admit when one is wrong. Well, I’ve said for months that I thought that last season was the top (at least for the moment) in NIL money sloshing around in the system. The reason was that I had read that the reason so much money was available last season was because schools were effectively emptying whatever NIL money they had prior to the House settlement going into effect on July 1, 2025 and revenue sharing largely taking its place. There was supposed to be a clearinghouse for NIL deals that would audit them for actual NIL value rather than mere pay-to-play. A few here said I was way too optimistic and that the fever wasn’t breaking. Those folks seem to be right.
Per Evan Miya, NIL offers (which I assume include both “real NIL” from an outside collective and revenue sharing payments from the schools) are up 65% this off-season from last year. And centers are fetching offers of 60%+ more than equally-talented backcourt players due to relative scarcity per his analysis.
Now I’m still skeptical about how real some of the claimed NIL offers are, since none of the contracts have leaked to my knowledge. But it does seem like this is at least somewhat true and my hope that last year was a temporary peak was very misplaced. The fever continues, hotter than ever.
If true, this means a couple of things. First, donors are still throwing immense sums into NIL. Second, the schools are basically banking on the NIL Clearinghouse being totally toothless and are ignoring it, since Bukky (despite being a good basketball player) is in no universe worth even $50k for mere use of his name and image, let alone $2 million.
All good financial advisors advise against trying to time the market and calling tops and bottoms. I’ve been humbled.

I’ve heard the same thing about the 60% increase. I am noticing a trend; many players entering the portal are matching to their new university relatively quickly. Both Sasha and Bukky have been sitting long than I would have expected. Despite the increase in spend could their asking price be off? What do you suspect is happening in either of those situations?

A quick note from a visitor.
Apparently your women’s team is picking up two of our Lobos who entered the transfer portortal. They are a pair of women you will love, and we wish you could have kept.
Joana Magalhaes, a 5’7" PG who has tremendous intensity and is completely fearless. And with a great outgoing personality. Shot 40% from the field with 8.7 ppg and second on the team in steals.
And Emma Najjuma, 6’4" athletic post. Has only been playing BB a short while. Limited offensively but a good post defender and rebounder (6.3 rpg in 19 min/g).
Enjoy them both.

I’m no insider, but I would guess that Gavalyugov is overestimating his value on the market. I have a hard time believing that a power program would pay more than SCU could for his services. But he wants to test the waters, and Santa Clara needs to move on.
I think Bukky might be genuinely out of SCU’s reach. Whether that’s an accurate reflection of his skill is a different story. But if the market is what’s being reported, a 7’1" athletic center may be way more than what SCU can responsibly give a single player. Bukky is special, but the Broncos can’t build the whole team around just him.
Here’s a good article about the NIL dynamics:

I’m betting you’re going to love Francis. And maybe the incoming 7-footer by league.
Thanks for the info and insight Lobo. Hopefully the women experience the improvement our men’s team has.

Massive news - starting 5 of Longcor, Sash, Ensminger, Tadjo, Francis?
I’d take that lineup to win the league.

God bless Jake. I hope he averages 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists next year and is first team All Conference.

Great news! I wonder how much of this will go on…test the portal to see what offers one can get. Or, from another viewpoint, make a threat, and get a package to stay.
Also @Lobo2x53 Thanks for the 411. Sounds like solid young women and ballers. They are coming to a great place.

I guess guys like Mahaney and Avila will likely get another year. We should leave a few spots open for players who have “only” been in school 4 years and desire to play a 5th year.
Would be sweet if we could get Mahi back. Or is it too late?
Also, article is behind a paywall. Is the proposal 5 years total (including redshirt)? Or 5 years on active roster (for min number of games/minutes, or course, to account for early-season injuries)?
