2026 Transfer Portal Thread

I suspect Herb would do more with/for him than ND did with/for Wertz.

Josh Dent is reportedly not transferring and will suit up for Coach Mickey McConnell next year. That’s big for the Gaels. Dent was a very reliable player all season and definitely doesn’t seem to have any of the toughness or maturity issues that frustrated Bennett in the closing weeks.

SMC is dead in the water. Overnight they have become USD (on the hardwood). As an institution SMC is on life support

I’m going to reserve judgment. The losses of Mikey Lewis and Murauskas are cumulatively very big for the Gaels. But Lewis was very cold for all of December and January, and Murauskas was pretty mercurial as both a talent and a personality.

I don’t think anyone would bet their house on the Gaels being back in the Tournament next year (or I hope not). But if they keep Dent, Shaw, Campbell, and Tony Duckett, plus add Jazz Gardner back in from his redshirt, I think that’s enough talent for a top-100 team that could compete for the NIT. Bennett could take that team to the bubble, probably. We will see what Coach McConnell can manage.

Miles Byrd will be entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer out of San Diego St. He put up some decent offensive numbers (10.4 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.9 steals per game, and 1.2 blocks per game), and he’s an excellent defender, 6-6, left handed. He was MWC Defensive Player of the Year.

I’m hearing Sash will be staying with SCU next year. Also just saw Bukky’s post so hoping that suggests he’s staying as well.

he would not leave sdsu for santa clara and it’s not worth 7 figures for an extremely inconsistent player

The belief from within right now is that most of the guys will be returning for next year

I didn’t infer that he would come to SCU, but he’ll be a Top 10 target in the transfer portal and he’s from Stockton.

From your lips…

Why not run it back? I know that it’s a rare personality at any age that wants to build something rather than inherit it. But I hope the players feel the satisfaction of bringing SCU to heights it hasn’t seen in over a generation with lots of road to travel still.

Money aside (and maybe that’s really all there is to it), I’ve never understood why a coach wants to maybe be the second-best coach in UCLA/Duke/Indiana history or why a player wants to be the sixth or seventh man on a HM team rather than a potential star for Santa Clara. Jalen and Podz will be SCU legends for years, a status they could never have attained at Ohio State or Texas Tech.

Well, I was going to say that legend or not, Jalen, Podz and maybe Graves have established that you can get to the NBA from Santa Clara.

But now there’s another one!

Good for Adama! Three Broncos in the NBA at the same time since the Ogden brothers and Dennis Awtrey ( I think).

Maybe Rambis, Vanos, and Keeling? ‘86?

Great call. If I read Basketball Reference correctly, you’re correct! I didn’t realize Keeling had a cup of coffee ( 20 games) in the League.

By the way Bal saw 28 minutes tonight, scored a bucket on 1 for 8. Annoyingly, his ESPN page lists his school as Arizona. Bal’s game..

Yeah we should email ESPN to get that changed.

Yeah definitely inconsistent offensively, but he plays lock-down defense all the time. Could totally take the others team’s best scorer out of the game

Very cool to see him put his name in the NBA record books after so many great Broncos just never quite got onto the floor in the League (err, Association):

Jared Brownridge, Keyshawn Justice, Doron Perkins, John Bryant, perhaps Kevin Foster, etc. - all got close in one way or another.

Marlon Garnett, Nash and the very end of Rambis almost overlap but it’s ultimately two seasons apart between Rambis and Garnett.

I saw that position assignment someplace else, too. Surprising.
