Yeah, it was hard enough in 1996 when we were a 10 seed, beat 7 seed Maryland, and then got railroaded by Kansas in the second round.
Gonzaga hoarded the NCAA bids, conference wins, accolades and so on for a quarter century and turned around and told us it wasnāt enough⦠See ya later, enjoy Texas State and Fresno.
Attendance and investment, especially pre-NIL, suffered greatly once many programs in the league realized success was near impossible.
Iāll be interested to see what happens next to all parties.
Gaels, Broncos and others are definitely going to have to get really creative to find Q1 chances in the next few years. Might need to look like Monson @ LBSU.
EDIT: And up pops Monson as HC at Eastern Washington⦠who knew!
Nothing to be ashamed of. A valiant effort and gave Zags all they could handle. I hope we get in without a play in game. I also hope we can keep everyone for next year. We spent a lot of energy on D and did a good job on the boards in the first half. Ran out of gas. Very proud of this group and think we are capable of winning a game or two if we can play like we did the last two nights before fatigue set in
Go Broncos!!!
Or go 30-0 like Miami(OH)
The guys did their best. This was a grand effort and I think they gave everything they had in the tank. Agree that this is a team that you donāt want to face in the tournament. These guys set the bar for SCU basketball going forward.. They made us all proud to be Broncos.
If you told me back in early November that this team would hold a lead against Gonzaga until the final 10 or so minutes of the WCC championship game and likely be on their way to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1996 (remember the ā96 Olympics in Atlanta? That was a looong time ago!), I would not have believed you.
It was a fun game despite the loss, itās been an especially fun season, and Iām happy for the team and for the SCU community.
Not to mention the entire season absence of both Big 10 transfers Normand and Tadjoā¦ā¦Tremendous season and it continues!!
That was a valiant effort by the Broncos tonight. Graves & Jake were warriors, clearly playing injured but giving it their all. Saw how meaningful the triple bye was, Broncos were exhausted. So many jumpers fell short cuz of tired legs. The difference tonight seemed to be 3 games in 3 nights
