Game 9: @ Cal

at this rate Cal is gonna put a CENTURY on us…

Someone will have to explain to me what this coaching staff saw in Jalen Benjamin. There are going to be “hits” and “misses” with transfer portal.

So far…this is a miss. Hope he finds his game at some point.

Fugly… that pretty much sums it up

We forced 1 turnover in a half. Not sure I have ever seen that before.

We are definitely missing Carlos Marshall. Any word on what his injury was.

Defense has been horrific.
Did anyone bother to scout Cal??? Pretty clear who their top guys are (Aimaq, Tyson, Cone) and they are all already in double figures. Cone is in his 5 year, he’s always shot a ton of 3’s, that’s not a mystery yet we give up 4/5 on 3’s from him.
This team needs to find and show a backbone…if not, we’re paper tigers.

Maybe an ankle wrap, it’s hard to tell when he was out in the huddle

One would think, after a half like that a good coach would make some major changes in the second half. Unfortunately, that’s not a possibility with Herb.

Announcers said ‘knee’ injury, no specifics.

Cal cooling off slightly and Santa Clara heating up in the stats. Gonna need more than mean reversion with this hole the Broncos have dug themselves, though.

A punch coming out of the half can get SCU back in it, but man, they’ve gotta play a whole lot better to have a chance. Cal is not a team that should hit 90 on us.

Again not having Tilly on the floor is killing us. Caffaro is getting his lunch eating on defense and is an offensive liability.

This is the type of game that can wreck our tourney aspirations. Ugg…

I want Knapper in as PG after this. Let’s at least invest more time in a guy with eligibility remaining. I doubt he has more liabilities than Benjamin at this point.

Everyone else…get better and show up in Vegas.

Would you include coaching in this statement?

I agree with Patty…Bal is your primary PG during crunch time. I’d like to see more of Knapper, even Hammond.

Right now, Benjamin just isn’t a factor and really thought we were getting a graduate transfer PG on par with PJ Pipes.

That’s obviously not the case.

Agree … except caffaro?

Thoughts from being at the game and from an unbiased (okay slightly biased) review of Haas:

  • what a cavernous grave, it’s 2-3x the size it needs to be
  • the whole upper bowl is incomprehensibly awful, yet there was a security line to get into the stadium, and one concession stand open
  • compared to Stanford fans it was definitely more of an atmosphere, BUT that’s not saying much at all.
  • all this to say I appreciate Leavey more and more after visiting some of these other venues. Now it would be next level if we could fill it up

Yeah, but Herb has already made the decision that he’s going to force Bal into the point (even though he’s not a point guard).

We do have tall guards. (Bal, Ensminger)

Spread the floor, post them up on their smaller guards.

Doesn’t seem too hard.

overheard postgame from coaches, “we were never even close”. Yeah they weren’t, wasn’t even an Ohio State loss either, they got blitzed from the jump
