General 2026 NCAA Tournament Thread

Starting a thread for general commentary on the tourney games.

This Siena-Duke game is absolutely brilliant. The David vs Goliath narrative kind of reminds me of the final game in the movie Hoosiers. Hopefully a similar outcome.

FWIW, Siena has been playing a lot of zone.

Head coach was a starter on Syracuse’s National Championship team, so not terribly surprising. But it has been very effective against the Blue Devils.

SMC down a bunch, generally struggling w/ A&M’s athleticism.

Scu coaches will need to study this SMC tape

Only 4 made free throws

12 points in the paint

18 turnovers

and then there were 2 wcc teams left

Both Gaels big men were awful tonight. Combined for ZERO points.

I’m not surprised Texas beat BYU either, but AJ Dybantsa is a terrific player.

Apparently Muruauskas did not start because he was ill. Came in later but clearly not himself.

Hmmm…..Nebraska had no problem getting the timeout after made bucket with 2.2 seconds of left against Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt ALMOST pulled it out as heave from beyond mid court rattles in and out.

Sorry to add to ‘what could have been’….

Iowa St’s best player (and former SMC Gael) Joshua Jefferson left early w/ injury Friday and is supposedly doubtful for today’s game vs. KU. Jefferson does everything for them, plays sort of a point forward role and leads them in assists, and leads or nearly leads in scoring, rebounds. Would have liked to face ISU w/o him. Clearly, they were better than KU, they are more sound and shoot it better but they aren’t as athletic and I think KU’s athleticism (ie- 11 blocked shots, Owen and others penetrating at will) gave us more trouble than anything.

I noticed this as well. Kind of hoping that Iowa State blasts the Wildcats so that it stings less. I Kentucky makes the Sweet 16, that will hurt a lot thinking of what could have been.

Another thing I am noticing is that the referees are stopping play on these late game shots to verify the amount of time remaining on the clock. That stoppage would have definitely helped us set our defense and employ a fouling strategy if needed.

Houston Mallette, 3 year player at Pepperdine is having a great game for Alabama right now. Five threes with 10:43 to go.

Texas tech and Tyree Bryan out of tourney also . Tyree did not score

Wish granted, Patty. Given the comments about the UK fan behavior, I must say I enjoyed it.
