OOC Game 6: Louisiana Lafayette

Good to get the decisive win.
Winning the games we should…..so far, none of the hiccups of losing games we shouldn’t (N. Dakota St., LMU, Pepperdine last year) or missing opportunities for wins over Quad II and III type teams (ASU, Stanford, UAB last year)…we were just 9-7 in Quad II/III games last year.

JC and ’Kev’s above comments regarding FT and fouling concerns are legit. We need to improve both our FT attempts and FT% and cut back on the fouling. Stats to date illustrate this….our opponents are outscoring us by 6.5 pts/game from the FT line…..that’s not sustainable if the goal is a 25-ish win season. And from Torvik, we’re 332nd in opponent FT rate, a byproduct of fouling too much and on offense we’re 297th in FT rate and 315th in FT%.

Next up…..6-0 Saint Louis with big bodied Rob Avila and his unique skill set leading their squad in 3 ptrs. It’s still early so you have to take current rankings with a huge grain of salt, but as of today, SLU is our highest ranked non-con opponent on Torvik at 62nd, followed by ASU at 84th. Potential Acrisure 2nd game opponent Minnesota is 79th, Stanford is in the high 90’s. Related….as of now we have 0 projected Quad 1 games on our non-con schedule.

This was a good listen. Also, they do a great job being ahead of this board on noting the need to reduce fouling and improve foul shooting. I hope the regular output keeps going!

Random thought from this game. KJ Cochran is quietly looking more comfortable with each appearance. I think at least a mini KJ breakout is one of the key unlocks in helping this team reach its potential.

Kj, Darlan, and Francis all have very, very high ceilings they are slowly moving toward as they learn the system and get integrated into the team. It is so exciting to see that potential about to be realized, and I believe it will for all of them.

If Cochran can get that 3 ball to go down, he’ll be dangerous. Currently, though, he’s 2-14. Excellent vision, instincts and effort are getting him minutes for the time being.

That commentator got it wrong. Robbie went down with under FIVE minutes left in the game. It was not the first half. It was late in second half.
