First 30 minutes were amazing, but in this analytics world where every possession matters you can’t be getting sloppy in the final 10 minutes.
#43 in Torvik, #51 in KenPom after tonight’s result.
They’ve done some select games when it comes to basketball, both men and women
im not privy to their schedule now that winter break is approaching for them but come January each and every game should be getting broadcasted.
As an aside, SCU pro radio won’t be traveling for the majority of the season. Just the local games and potentially Gonzaga. SMC is doing something similar, no radio for them. Not a fan of the medium getting pulled back but obviously its a ROI thing
And there’s room to grow yet. Their Torvik rating without preseason bias is back up to #17, right above St. John’s, Kentucky, and Kansas. It’s still early but these analytics should start getting stickier in December.
Win the next two, and our Broncos will be in some pretty rarefied air for Santa Clara. But that requires winning at The Pit…not easy at all.
Hey I’m sports director at KSCU this year. I’m abroad this quarter so starting with USD at home 1/4 there will be coverage of every game on radio for both home & away maybe with the exception of @ Wazzu for MBB and (hopefully) every home game for WBB as well. Our mixlr is kscusports or I made an insta kscusports to make it easy for people to find/follow us and the link for each game will also be there.
I think that a few consecutive actually. 3 maybe 4
Torvik has us at a 67.5% to make the tournament with a projected 9 seed. Fingers crossed. Mountain West is not particularly strong this year. Hopefully we can remain ahead of teams like Colorado State and Boise State in the metrics. Game at New Mexico will be huge.
Looking ahead to Utah Tech, I know it will be Jalen Williams’ Jersey retirement night. The Thunder play the night before against the Warriors and don’t play again until Friday in Dallas. Curious if the entire Thunder team will make an appearance. I know they did when Chet got his high school number retired in Minnesota.
Yep 4 total. It’s in the postgame notes on the website.
Glad we won. Guys continued to play hard but kind of a smoke and mirrors win….3pt shots falling masked shortcomings elsewhere. Most other stats decidedly in MN’s favor. Outrebounded by 8 incl giving up 13 off boards. Outscored at the FT line 20 to 8. Committed too many fouls again 22 fouls to MN’s 12.
Lot’s to clean up…hopefully they can learn from these two not so great Acrisure games.
Loved the win over a B10 team, but there were too many easy back doors by the Gophers in the 2nd half. Torrid 3pt shooting masks a lot of mistakes. Granted, the game was decided, but I didn’t like seeing the defense give up 20 pts in the last 5:30 of the game.
Having said all that, there is a lot to like in 7-1 and a 59 Ken Pom ranking.
It looked as if the boys got bored. Outscored by 13 in the 2nd half; giving up 20 pts in the final 20 minutes was also noticeable. What otherwise was a 24 pt win ended up being an 11 pt win.
we clearly showed some issues with the zone defense and full court press. Better teams will see that in film study and duplicate that over the course of a full game.
I am being nitpicky but at a certain point metrics like margin of victory matter. A 24 point win over even a weaker top 100 B10 opponent makes for a stronger resume. Hope the boys can capture a few blowout wins over formidable opponents.
Are they foul happy though? Or is this typical West Coast officiating which I NEVER liked. I swear Cam averaged 1.5 questionable calls per game.
It was a 19-pt lead with 1:04 remaining in the game. SCU let up a lot in the final minute and allowed 8 unanswered points. That’s a costly breakdown.
I don’t know if anyone else saw, but (now) 11-5 Wisconsin beat Michigan to hand the Wolverines their first loss.
10-6 Minnesota plays Wisconsin next, then they go up against #16 Illinois on Saturday. Minnesota will play Michigan at home on Feb 4 and again on Feb 24 in Ann Arbor. Would be helpful if the Gophers could take down some of these top teams.
