Roster Next Year

When I competed the rules were that if you had a scholarship for track and played football, your scholarship counted against the limits for football. Basketball was similar. Other sports’ scholarship limits were not impacted by football or basketball players competing. I think the rules are still the same.

I have heard that Carlos is walking on the basketball team (non-scholarship).

If Carlos is walking on, does that mean we still have a scholarship?

I don’t think so…see chatter above after the Marshall and Bukky Obeye announcement, head count was 14, one over the limit of 13.
If Carlos is in fact walking on then it just addresses the scholarship overage issue, it doesn’t open up an available scholarship.
That’s my take.

I concur. Oboye coming in next season and Marshall walking on puts SCU right at the scholarship cap. I would be a little surprised if Oboye doesn’t red shirt. A 7’0" lanky big with guard skills seems like he needs a bit of time to develop his game and adjust to college.

But it’s exciting to have someone in that Holmgren/Wemby mold coming to SCU (not at all suggesting that Oboye is there skills wise).

I agree Patty.
Oboye highlight reel was pretty limited…uncontested dunks and blocked shoots of kids a foot shorter. Don’t recall a single post move. Yes, some apparent athleticism and perimeter skills that are nice to see in a 7footer but will still likely need a lot of work. McEldon appears to be much farther along in his overall development.
And with Tilly, Caffaro and McEldon capable at the 5 and Tongue and O’Neil (plus Tilly if desired) at the 4, we are fine for frontcourt depth.
