Speculation on Next Year’s Squad

Interesting. He is coming in as a Junior. I guess they are counting G League experience as equivalent to college years?

A guy who gets 11/6/2 in the G-League has to be rocking in the WCC. Jared Brownridge–totally different player but also a guard at least–got 8.5/2/2.1 on the same team against the same opponents.

This is a huge for the team, I believe.

Obviously we’re pretty near to the start of the year to be adding someone, but beyond that, assuming he stays healthy and gels with the team, I have a hard time not seeing this as a massive add for the program, especially for the league season.

Some articles about the eligibility idea.

Credit to the staff for 1) staying connect to the young man and 2) getting creative on eligibility, apparently.

Agreed. Also, saw on Instagram that Chris Tadjo is Darlan’s best friend. Brownridge being perhaps the nicest teammate imaginable certainly had to help as well; and the prior relationship with the coaching staff as you mentioned + being able to point to Jdub and Podz as examples of SCU to the NBA.

The first article states that Darlan is a power forward, but the SCU press release says he’s a guard. At 211 pounds, I’m going with guard

Seeing Jared in so many of these plays is a real joy.

Speaking of Jared, here is an update on him. What a terrific person and player!

I am curious…Darlan comes in as a Junior from an athletic standpoint, but from an academic standpoint, is he a Freshman??

Academics?? I would’ve guessed SCU has finally added a B.A. Pro Basketball degree, where Court Time = Class Time.

Call me old fashioned but Darlan sounds like a one and done acquisition which while Podz turned out that way is not what we have historically done. If any recruit who was promised to get a chance to play now has to red shirt, I would be disappointed. The game has passed me by and we lost players to the Portal so I guess we have to be able to adapt to the new world but I do hope that the players we already recruited are able to fulfill their dreams when they signed with SCU. WE seem to have a lot of guards on the roster. I believe this move puts us in a must win situation where NIT is a must and NCAA the goal with a reasonable chance to get there. GO BRONCOS!!!

The roster has been updated, pics and #’s for the new guys added. Darlan is included as is another new player I don’t believe has been mentioned: Juan Reyna, 5th year, 6-3 guard (listed at 6-2 elsewhere). SCU is his 5th school, all low tier schools: Alabama St, Campbell, UTSA (didn’t play) and Jackson St. Beat season was his freshman year at Alabama St.: 8.7 pts, 40% from 3. Career #’s: 6pts, 32% from 3, 83% FTs. Assist #’s are low so appears to be a 2 guard, not pt guard.

I’m a bit confused, even after reading this article: https://www.ncsasports.org/blog/ncaa-scholarship-roster-limits-2024

So rosters are capped at 15, and scholarships are capped at 15? I see 17 on the roster list. So I guess we’ll have 2 walk-ons (non-scholarship) on the active roster, a 2 redshirts on scholarship? Am I interpreting this correctly?

The new NCAA settlement allows for DSA’s to protect walk ons from being purged from rosters.

Post-settlement “Designated Student-Athlete” (DSA)

The House v. NCAA settlement, approved in June 2025, created a new “Designated Student-Athlete” (DSA) status to protect walk-ons impacted by the new roster limits.

That’s how they’ve added the last two players….

They are not counters for the roster Size of 15.

Ah, ok thanks for clarifying. So no need for redshirts to start the season.

15 non-redshirt players seems extremely deep - especially since most of them are guard/wing type players! It will be interesting to see how minutes are doled out. Presumably most of the freshmen will be riding pine for a good chunk of the season.

I expect we’ll see a redshirt from one of the freshmen guards. Longcor more likely than Cochran.

Even with redshirt or two, PT is going to be limited for several others; you aren’t going to see a 12 to 13 man playing rotation. We supposedly had a deep squad last year but it was still typically only a 9 man rotation.

Highlights from practice. The first move by Darlan is pretty awesome.

I wonder how good this team will be on the defensive side.
