WCC Game 13: USD

Amazing we are almost shooting better from 3pt line then free throw line!!!

I heard Jake was basically throwing up the whole flight back from Portland. I agree he doesn’t look well

I’m liking what Bukky is putting out there. Confidence from today can go a long way

Kind of sloppy and a little nervy there for a few minutes. Helluva game for Mahi (finally), and a minor breakout for Bukky. A big win and another 90+ points of offense even without Tilly. Not bad.

Tilly was out with a knee contusion. Walking but still painful. Ensminger and I believe Bryan under the weather as well. Looked like Bryan was getting some fluids IV on the bench.
Carlos and Mahi showed up at key moments and Cam did his usual physical work on the boards and in the paint. Bukky made 3 really good catches for dunks that were impressive live.
Hoping all are ready to play Tuesday……

The first 30mins was closer than it should have been (8-11 pt lead) but fortunately the Broncos got hot the last 10mins and pulled away.

The 2 man play of Mahi and Bukky was fun to watch…bodes well for next season. If Bukky can put on 10lbs and get a little stronger he can be a factor next season. You can’t teach his length, he has decent hands and agility for a big and we haven’t had a rim protector like him since I don’t know when…John Bryant???

Hopefully Tilly can go Tues.; going to need all our interior players vs. SMC’s bigs.

Went to the game and when we ran off 18:straight I was feeling good. Then it got closer than it should have as our initial tough d and rebounding eased. Final ten minutes we pulled away as our depth took over. Hopefully Tilly will be ready to go Tuesday and we were resting him. Did not know Ensminger was ill but noticed his play was limited. I do have to say this is a very entertaining Bronco team with many good players. Too bad the attendance is still so low. A few more students than in prior years and those that were there were energetic. Saw the University President leaving after the game so it’s nice to know she goes and supports the team. Maybe this will bode well for the Broncos long term. GO BRONCOS!!!

Bukky started his basketball journey as a point guard and has an amazing handle for a 7 footer. Also, I believe a 41-inch vertical. Elijah is coming into his own at D1. Yes, exciting duo.

Yes, I forget the specifics, but I believe Bukky was something like 6 foot as a HS freshmen and was a guard/wing. Then experienced a tremendous growth spurt mid-high school.
I think that background as a guard and with ‘normal’ height is at least partially why he has good hands, agility, runs the court well and has some perimeter game. He developed decent coordinate and biomechanics as a relatively normal height kid. Whereas, for the kids who have always been extraordinarily big for their age often struggle with their coordination catching up to their size…the physics of it all are not on their side and so the often end the stereotypical big, clumsy, uncoordinated kid.

I suspect he’s still getting used to his body, learning how to play as a big and take full advantage of his length. He probably spent little time growing up playing in or guarding the post; it takes time to develop the instincts and feel specific to a position or role on the floor. The angles, positioning, leverage, techniques, level of contact, etc. in the post is quite different than playing on perimeter as a guard or wing.

Lots of upside for Bukky, but may take some time to fully realize his potential.

Has anyone confirmed that Bukky got the red shirt for last year? I know he briefly appeared in a couple of early games but then was said to be redshirting later on. It would seem that having him not count last year would help a lot in making room for his development.

Bukky is listed as RS frosh on both the Broncos’ website and Verbal Commits.

I believe the rules may have changed and you’re allowed to play a limited # of games and by certain date (ie- prior to Dec. 1) and still redshirt…not sure of all the specifics.
