I’m. The last 3 minutes we have left three Waves totally unguarded hinging up 7 free points.
Basic fundamentals……
At least O’Neil has hit them when SCU really needed a couple.
WakeUpSwig with the clutch reverse jinx!
Tongue comes in and we get a stop. Couple stops away from stealing this.
We will discuss the shot selection after. Lol
He heard us talking crap. Though, I don’t know if he called, “bank” on his first 3.
OK, I don’t understand why Cam is not on the floor for this defensive possession.
This is what I was wondering. Maybe he wanted Tilly to defend the big since he matches up better in size.
It’s like watching the Warriors (again). I don’t understand the rotational decisions whatsoever, but I would take a win.
Tilly actually played their center fairly well, but still would have not been my move.
I’m available for hire from my couch.
Miracles can happen in spite of ourselves. Thanks you Adama…
The good news is, the Broncos are VERY due for a big night from the three point line!
Bal was terrific! Clutch FT shooting tonight too!
Great team win and nothing wrong with 2-0 start in conference play, especially on the road. Really encouraged by Knapper’s play this weekend…Loved the fact that he was looking to score!
Go Broncos!!
Happy for the miracle too. I also agree Bals FT were clucth. But that is where the praise stops and the constructive criticism begins.
This will sound harsh but as a former coach, these would be my issues. He puts us in these predicaments. I feel he has a very poor shot selection (takes a lot of off-balance shots). He is sloppy with the ball. He takes some really insane drives to the hoop that result in opponents’ possession. I feel he is a step behind on defense. I really have big concerns with this. And this is NOT about my kid not playing. This is a genuine concern about the lack of a real floor general and I honestly believe if our guys could play in their CORRECT positions, we would have better success. I feel Bal is being forced into a role he cannot fill. I would be curious to see his +/- on an NBA scorecard and not these NCAA scorecards that overlook the OFF-BALL play and points given up.
If I had to give thanks. I would go with BK again. He gives us clutch plays, rebounds, baskets when we really need them. Honestly, this was a team effort as many stepped up at the right moment.
Someone called him on the bench and said, start hitting those threes. The old folks are wondering about your ability to do so! So, he showed us all. And yes, they were nice to see and much needed!!
Gritty road win! Someone please ban the one handed pass.
Broadcaster mentioned Carlos Stewart, now at LSU. Only averaging 5 points a game . This team could really use him
BK led the team in rebounds tonight with 9.
Extremely lucky to get a win against a really bad team tonight. Herb is completely backwards. His offense has SCU getting only difficult looks and his no touch man D gives up tons of easy buckets.
It’s even tough to beat lowly Pepp under those parameters.
Femme…I could not disagree with you more. Does Santa Clara win this game if Bal doesn’t play? Quite simply, the answer is NO. He is not beyond criticism and no doubt has areas of his game to work on.
That being said, this team isn’t that dynamic offensively and there really isn’t anyone on this roster that is capable of putting this team on his shoulders when called upon, maybe Marshall. How many times did he go to the hole tonight and draw a foul? His FT shooting was the difference tonight. Yes, he is guilty of forcing some shots, but there are times that this offense looks stagnant when he’s not out there.
SCU has some nice complimentary players, but late when the game is on the line, he’s the guy. You state that there are areas of his game that he needs to work on…Agreed! However, I can make a case for every single player that needs to improve upon this or that…Cam included.
100% ALL players have room for improvement. This pertains even to the pros. But I think Bal would be more THAT GUY in the right position. Because the flaws I mentioned - I am convinced would be SEVERELY REDUCED when he is in the right position.
I think this pertains to a lot of our players who are playing out of position. I can easily point out what Cam needs to improve. Get IN FRONT of players on boards and not pick up over the back fouls. If he backs up to basket and gets double teamed, kick it out. Hit his free throws. The first two he can do BETTER in the right position. The FT he can do better on his own - practice, practice, practice.
I loved watching Stewart and would have him back in a second. That said, he was sort of the prototype for the Broncos main issues this season. He was always barreling downhill with the ball and would get trapped. But he was about the only player who could pull up for a midrange and actually get that to work reliably. And he was fun to watch. He just isn’t the missing piece on this squad. A guy like PJ Pipes is.
Bal was essential in this game, but I have similar concerns to Femme. I don’t think, “Hey, Adama, go get us 30” is gonna be a good offensive strategy against Gonzaga or SMC or USF. On a lot of possessions, it was clear that the ball was never going to leave Bal’s hands until he shot it. And he shot it really, really well. But aside from some good stuff at the beginning of the game, this game was what I feared: iso, iso, and more iso against a bad defensive team who would let SCU (sort of) get away with it. There were only 6 assists the whole game!! If the guys were really working as a team offense, then the Broncos wouldn’t need Bal to be a hero.
Knapper continues to play well and was an inch from a double-double. I agree that it’s nice seeing him look to score. And he should have had a charge drawn if not for a bad call.
I’ll take the win, but man I hoped to see some team offense after some bright spots against LMU in that regard. That didn’t really happen.
Since we are bringing up former players. HOW EXCITED are we for Bediako?! He is getting SOLID minutes and they just took a dub against UCONN and now Marquette. Not bad!!!
I was at the no-teeth Sharks game tonite so i missed this game. It may have been close, but on the upside, how many times in the last 30 years have the Broncos swept in LA?
Not many.
So, as small as a nugget that is, I’ll take it.
