WCC Game 2: @ Pepperdine

Well regardless of anything, we asked for a showdown going into Gonzaga and we’ve now got that. They are as gettable as they’ve ever been and I’m excited to broadcast in a sold out Leavey on Thursday and for a chance to right the wrongs of last year

Great gritty win by Santa Clara. If you watched the first 30 minutes of the game you might have turned it off as it was an ugly performance by both teams. Terrible shot selection, sloppy play, turnovers, missed shots, out of control. Looked more like a high school game.

The last 10 minutes of the game a completely different ebb and flow. Both teams trading shots, hitting clutch jumpers. Bal was very impressive down the stretch. If he can control his turnovers and dish to find open looks at other times instead of being the primary option most of the time, we could be dangerous. So many new players this year that I am hoping our issue is just time to gel and players figure out their identity and role. Road wins are tough and great way to start WCC schedule with 2 wins.

+1, Patty. Spot on. Totally agree.

Bediako is playing great. Seen him play quite a bit.

Parker Braun is getting 5-6 minutes for Kansas, too. Could win a national championship. Good for him.

The only guy it really hasn’t worked out for is Carlos, although he’s closer to home and playing in the SEC.

One other former Bronco that is having success is Miguel Tomley at Idaho St.

He’s averaging just over 10ppg on an Idaho St team that’s not very good and probably won’t be a factor in the Big Sky.

I thought he might be a player that could really contribute from the perimeter as he has a decent stroke and 3 point range.

It just didn’t work out, but glad to see all of these former Broncos seeing some measure of success elsewhere.

Ajayi is a real keeper for Pepperdine. As a 6-7 220lb guard, he’s a tough matchup. He plays physically and gets to the line where he makes his free throws. Besides torching the Broncos, he dropped 31 on UNLV and 25 on Idaho State. Don’t see many JC transfers become difference-makers these days, so good for him.

Our own incoming JC guy, Elijah Mahi, is doing quite well this season. He’s doing a bit of it all: scoring, rebounding, dishing it out. We will see how it translates to D1 ball, but it’s encouraging.

Bryan and CMJ both started their careers at the JC level, too.
