That’s a lot of declines for the NIT… shows what it has become.

The Broncos currently have the 2nd best odds to win the NIT at +600. SMU is the favorite at +350

Maybe we can hang an “NIT Champions” banner right next to the CIT and CBIT banners! :man_facepalming:

I mean, c’mon, KK won TWO national championships! HS hasn’t won any!

Where did Renee hide the CIT and CBI banners or did she have them burned?

Given all the above, I’ll reiterate the Final 4 should be the goal.
And given the comp level, I’m not sure that is all that impressive.

Might come down to who really wants to compete and play basketball, vs. who has one foot out the door.

Well. I for one am hoping for redemption of the Pepperdine fiasco with an NIT title. Not sure why everyone has become “basketball snobs” about post season play. Those teams declining are sore losers in my eyes. It’s a school wide “hissy fit” as far as I am concerned when schools decline it shows very weak character.

I am even more surprised since SOME of those teams who declined were in LOWER net ranking than Santa Clara (net 57). LSU net ranking is 89 and Wake Forest is 69.

Yale at Net 72 is in.

Femme, I agree and well said. This team is deserving of a NIT bid and there have been highs this season with wins @ McNeese St, @ Gonzaga, neutral court wins over Bradley and St. Louis, mixed in with some lows in home loss to ND State, and inexcusable loss to Pepperdine.

Will this be a disappointing season if they don’t reach quarterfinals? IMO, yes, when you consider the experience, talent and roster continuity. If top seeds prevail, we will be @ UC Irvine for the quarterfinals…difficult road test but winnable. If we run the table, and end up hosting quarterfinal as a result of a UCI loss, then anything less than a trip to Indianapolis will be very disappointing. One at a time though, Broncos need to keep their foot on the gas and leave no doubt tonight vs UCR.

GO BRONCOS!!!

I have to be honest, I don’t know why our odds are worse than Irvine, but I’ll take it!

C’mon Broncos!

In addition to trying to win the whole thing, I hope that the coaching staff is talking to the other coaches throughout the NIT for OOC games next year. Whatever it lacks in power conference squads, several of the teams in the NIT are the upper-echelon mid-major programs that will do home-and-home or neutral site games with SCU that really matter.

Dayton, Loyola Chicago, St. Bonaventure, North Texas, UAB, Chatanooga…basically any A-10 or AAC team is worth trying to work something out with. There’s a lot of luck involved with scheduling in the pre-season. SCU got unlucky that SLU fell off the map, and Bradley did worse than anticipated. But McNeese was a great game to add and gave SCU one of its two Q1 wins. There are several McNeese-like programs in this NIT field.

Our non-con opponent, McNeese, just upset Clemson.

GU comfortably up by 22 early 2nd half.

They ran UGA out of the gym - it was like 27-3 to start.

There are 14 SEC teams in the tournament…

Honestly, kinda. Torvik up 4 spots from this morning, closing in on top-40.

Smc down 12 with 15 min left and marciulonas just picked up his 4th.

It’s incredible what a difference having not WCC refs makes with the way smc plays defense.
