Neil Payne’s Bubble Watch (ESPN) has us as a ‘Should Be In’ which is an improvement over a ‘Work to Do” - and note Sash’s highlight as the featured video at the top.
Other prognosticators will update across the morning… CBS tends to update relatively early, but gives no exposition.
Sports Illustrated’s recap refers to us as the Gaels… so we have some name recognition work to do.
Considering the Broncos movement in WAB, and the Net we should be on the 10-seed line. Broncos got a little motion. As of today, thats where Bracketdom has placed SCU:
I’d prefer Stanford over a bunch of other bubble teams because Bay Area, blah blah blah - they’re currently trailing to Pitt with a minute left in a game that would certainly eliminate them.
Cross Stanford off the list of teams that can pass us. Next game up is SMU vs Syracuse. SMU neck and neck with us in many of these mock brackets, if I’m not mistaken.
A controversial opinion, I’m sure: for exposure’s sake, I much prefer the three Bay Area WCC schools elevating their programs while the ACC schools languish. The local press doesn’t need any excuses to overlook SMC, SCU, and USF in favor of Cal/Stanford. And though they were mostly victims of realignment rather than leaders, Cal and Stanford being in the ACC is an abomination that I would rather see punished with mediocrity than rewarded with a bid.
Now an SJSU tournament bid is something I could get behind, though.
Beggars can’t be choosers, but I have always detested the 7-10 seeds for the sole fact that if you win 1 game you have like a 99% chance of playing one of the elite teams in the sport. Looking at this years likely #1 seeds I’d much rather be a 10 than an 8 or 9.
Funny background to that photo I saw last night and had to re-watch the video to confirm. Sash hits the back-breaker and there’s Herb desperately trying to get a time out… there’s like 6 secs left, SCU is up by 5. Are you kidding me? At least watching the video I saw that as he doesn’t get the time out he throws his hands down like ”awe forget it”, but seriously, wtf was he thinking?
Better than letting the clock run (and have SMC basically burn all remaining 6 seconds)? Seems like about the worst idea in the world (situationally speaking). Anyway, when I saw it live I had to rewind and laugh.
