25-26 Bracketology

It’s a beautiful thing, folks.

EDIT:

Neil Payne’s Bubble Watch (ESPN) has us as a ‘Should Be In’ which is an improvement over a ‘Work to Do” - and note Sash’s highlight as the featured video at the top.

Other prognosticators will update across the morning… CBS tends to update relatively early, but gives no exposition.

Sports Illustrated’s recap refers to us as the Gaels… so we have some name recognition work to do.

WAB hadn’t been updated until just now. Santa Clara is up to 36 in WAB.

Oops thank for catching that. I looked at the date/timestamp on the NET but didn’t check again when I clicked WAB. Great news.

CBS has us in the 1st Four playing Stanford.

They’ve punted one of the other First Four games, between VCU and SMU, down to the 12 seed line.

Probably meant to avoid some rematch or intra-conference game. Things are so fluid that I’m not going to try to figure it out.

CBS had us as a 10 playing Nova two days ago… We added a quality win, and moved down. So who knows.

Another Bronco shout out from the Athletic, including what will become an iconic photo of Sash. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7103393/2026/03/10/2026-ncaa-basketball-tournament-cinderellas-to-watch/?source=user_shared_article&unlocked_article_code=1.SFA.NYN8.wI3uurKQGSVE&smid=ta-ios-share

Can’t get blown out tonight if we want increase our chances of avoiding Dayton. Close loss keep at same or helps metrics.

Bubble watch next two days still impactful as we don’t want teams to jump us!

Considering the Broncos movement in WAB, and the Net we should be on the 10-seed line. Broncos got a little motion. As of today, thats where Bracketdom has placed SCU:

I’d prefer Stanford over a bunch of other bubble teams because Bay Area, blah blah blah - they’re currently trailing to Pitt with a minute left in a game that would certainly eliminate them.

They look awful. Makes me appreciate our effort vs. Pacific more.

Terrible game, but I suppose the wheat and chaff separate at this point.

Kyle Smith back to the NIT.

Thanks, Panthers - they hurt Cal’s chances bad too.

As I said above, all things equal I’d love four Bay Area schools in the Dance.

On the other hand, folks in the Bay filling out their brackets might just see SCU and SMC this year, which can’t hurt our perception…

Stanford loses on a layup with 1 sec to go.

Cross Stanford off the list of teams that can pass us. Next game up is SMU vs Syracuse. SMU neck and neck with us in many of these mock brackets, if I’m not mistaken.

A controversial opinion, I’m sure: for exposure’s sake, I much prefer the three Bay Area WCC schools elevating their programs while the ACC schools languish. The local press doesn’t need any excuses to overlook SMC, SCU, and USF in favor of Cal/Stanford. And though they were mostly victims of realignment rather than leaders, Cal and Stanford being in the ACC is an abomination that I would rather see punished with mediocrity than rewarded with a bid.

Now an SJSU tournament bid is something I could get behind, though.

Followed by SMU vs Syracuse… woof.

I’ve got this game on in the background while I’m keyboard clicking a long document on my laptop.

It’s funny to see a #14 seed playing against a #11 seed, and realize how important the game is to us.

Go Orange!

Beggars can’t be choosers, but I have always detested the 7-10 seeds for the sole fact that if you win 1 game you have like a 99% chance of playing one of the elite teams in the sport. Looking at this years likely #1 seeds I’d much rather be a 10 than an 8 or 9.

Funny background to that photo I saw last night and had to re-watch the video to confirm. Sash hits the back-breaker and there’s Herb desperately trying to get a time out… there’s like 6 secs left, SCU is up by 5. Are you kidding me? At least watching the video I saw that as he doesn’t get the time out he throws his hands down like ”awe forget it”, but seriously, wtf was he thinking?

Up 5, why call TO? That’s nuts. Agree, what was he thinking?

Let’s you set your defense and remind them not to foul. They are 18 year old kids.

I don’t think it’s the worst idea in the world. Kids do dumb stuff :joy:

Better than letting the clock run (and have SMC basically burn all remaining 6 seconds)? Seems like about the worst idea in the world (situationally speaking). Anyway, when I saw it live I had to rewind and laugh.
