I wonder if this is a test run to see if the WCC Tournament would be feasible there. I know that the conference has looked into it, and most of us are at least intrigued by the idea. I still think March in Tahoe is too risky with weather, but the Gaels will give it a test, albeit in a much less snowy month.

From what I’ve heard Tahoe as a potential site of a WCC tourney is a non starter. The front runners appear to be Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson or Accrisure Arena in Palm Springs. Orleans Arena is still a possibility. Have also heard a dark horse candidate is The Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay. That arena is too large for the WCC but the President of Aria, Cosmopolitan, Mandalay Bay & Bellagio properties is an SCU grad and the WCC has been woooing him in hopes of getting an arena deal out of him

Michelob Ultra Arena holds 12,000. That seems untenable.
As is Michelob Ultra. We need a Manny’s Pale Ale Arena that seats 8000.

Honestly, the Graton Casino is missing out on a pretty great opportunity here…They are now leaning into the Vegas-in-Wine-Country thing with a $275 gold-flaked donut abomination, so the Vegas lovers and Vegas haters can both be mollified.

New Mexico and VCU both coming to Leavey is a pretty awesome non-conference home slate in 2026 for a team like Santa Clara.
Shows both some commitment from the administration and some respect from these other programs to be willing to play the Broncos. Along with a good neutral tournament and some interesting neutral/away games.
I will be very interested to see if we can get some folks in the stands for once when these guys come to town. Really don’t have a very good barometer because we so rarely get good name but non-local non-conference teams in Leavey…
