26-27 MBB Schedule

Wonder if Milwaukee 11/4 will be the season opener or will the Broncos be playing a non-D1 opponent on 11/2?

A couple things to note…

  • i don’t like how regional “rivalries” have the opportunity to only be 1x per year. Take LMU/pepp and Seattle/portland. If I was commish I would want these games played twice per year - they are both so close geographically.
  • It probably will help our metrics that we got two of the lowest ranked teams - port and Denver - only 1x this year. I wonder if there is any bias to smc/scu like there was for Gonzaga?

Agree on both counts

So we aren’t with any of these teams?

With the unbalanced schedule, I believe they are still using the same scheduling approach where the worst teams from the previous year get an easier schedule based on previous year standings & the tougher teams paly the strong teams. It makes sense, best chance to steal a bid.

we were originally in this, I guess we quietly dropped out?

I think we are included in the 28 total teams in the Acrisure series of games, just not in the 8 “headline” teams group like we were last year.

I’m guessing we bailed on Palm Springs.

Santa Clara is still in the Accrisure Palm Springs games they just aren’t included in the top 2 pods

The new rule this season is that teams can have up to 32 games, but all games count. The MTE exception used to be that you could do one MTE and get a 2-for-1 or 3-for-2 “bonus” game. But the new rule basically eliminates the MTE exception while allowing teams to fully schedule 32 games. USF is in the same Palm Springs event as SCU but also has another mid-major MTE in Frisco, TX.

My guess is these mini-tournaments are the wave of the future. Hold precious those marquee games on campus because their getting more scarce than ever…

My understanding is a team can schedule up to 4 exhibition/practice games against other D1 programs this season as well

Interesting. We will have already played the revenge game against the Lobos by the time this event takes place. Hopefully BSU and the Beavers will prove to be worthy opponents.

I’m looking forward to heading up the coast from SD to watch these games.

Oof that strikes me as a silly amount, if true, and just begging for injury. But I am not surprised with the explosion of charity and “charity” exposition games.

I forgot you can play multiple tournaments now.

Hopefully we still get decent games there. This Non-Conf is a step up from last year (makes sense if you lose Gu 2x)
