No Ceilings did a review of Mahi as a potential 2026 NBA Draft prospect. They like his size, strength, handle, and shooting. Areas for improvement include finishing and defense. I believe Mahi got at least a tiny bit of NBA buzz early last season. I expect it will be louder this year if he improves in the aforementioned areas.
Good review and analysis. Nothing to disagree w/ IMO. Especially agree with finishing stronger at the rim and being more impactful and consistent defensively.
Only thing I’d add is Mahi should also be focused on putting up better rebounding #’s. If Podz can avg. nearly 9 rebounds a game, no reason Mahi can’t get to 6 to 7 boards per game.
IMO, he has far more NBA upside than Bal….better athlete, stronger, plays more physical (though he still has room to amp that up).
Heard Elijah showed up to camp overweight and out of shape. Had to focus on his academics and basically did no conditioning in the offseason. The coaching staff was extremely upset at him and made him run and do conditioning instead of practicing. If I’m an NBA team that’s a huge red flag
Yikes, that’s not good news.
Unless he addresses this pronto it maybe changes my view of his potential and what I didn’t say above is my hope and expectation that he’d be our go-to guy and consensus 1st team all-league.
Lack of discipline for an athlete is not a good trait. I appreciate his need to focus on academics but it’s not that hard for a 22yr old athlete to stay in just OK shape….an hour of moderately intense work outs 5 days a week and restraint and good choices at the dinner table. These guys have access to tremendous resources and guidance (team nutritionist, academic assistance, etc.) that previous generations of players didn’t have….no excuses.
I believe this team will go as far as Graves, Bukky and Jake take them. Graves is the guy!
I agree with this. Mahi is perhaps the most naturally gifted player on the team and has the highest ceiling of the players we have seen so far. But he’s also at the position with the greatest depth behind him–Ensminger, Badibanga, Normand, Cochran all seem like natural 3s, depending on the desire for size or shooting in a given lineup.
The front court is absolutely the determining factor for how good the Broncos are. After Ensminger, the rest of the 4s and 5s have just a handful of D1 minutes, if any, and there’s very little depth. If Graves really is awesome, Bukky hits his next gear, and Tadjo provides much needed toughness under the hoop, then perhaps the Broncos can stay at a high level.
Graves either got engaged or married this summer. Have heard both and no one seems certain if he’s married or not. His fiancé/wife isn’t an SCU student so you gotta wonder if he’s a Bronco for the long haul or will transfer to be closer to her
Looks like an engagement per social media. Congratulations to Allen! Of course, now post-NIL and House settlement, it could also be true that his fiancee would come to SCU given Allen’s ability to make at least some money playing. But of course that presumes that SCU remains his best and preferred option.
Makes the decision to RS him even more interesting…
Parlor game…can anyone name another player, any year, that was engaged or married while active on the roster? I know one. Virtual kudos if you can peg it.
Troy Payne? I felt like there was one in that era
Don’t forget Tadjo, he could be as critical to our success as the other bigs noted…he’s the only ‘muscle’ we appear to have on the roster.
Well Mahi better get in shape quickly since he’s going to be on Canada’s Globl Jam team. He participated two years ago. The team will be coached by Pacific’s Dave Smart.
I hope Elijah has a great performance up north. He is really excited about this year and loves his teammates…saying they are really solid… so I think he will show up big time and win many games for us.
How about this? He is a real talent. Go Elijah and go Broncos
Game vs. BAL Select
-
Points: 17 (team-high)
-
Rebounds: 6
-
Role: Came off the bench
-
Result: Canada defeated BAL Select 88–62
-
Venue: Mattamy Athletic Centre, Toronto
Mahi helped spark Canada’s offense after a slow start, contributing significantly to their dominant second quarter and overall victory.
I love it. I saw he was a little slower in the Georgetown/Team USA game but still helped Canada get the win. I think the games are on ESPN+ so I may take a look in the next couple of days if I can find the tape.
Glad to see Elijah succeed.
Actually, @Sedulous I think that’s a line from 2023. I went digging today, and it looks like BAL Select isn’t part of this year’s Globl Jam–it’s Canada, Japan, Georgetown/Team USA, and Brazil.
Canada has had tilts against Brazil and Team USA so far. They lost to Brazil, and Elijah played the most minutes but had a tough shooting game. Similar in a win against Team USA, which was kind of a rock fight.
Mahi’s line versus Brazil was 7 points on 2-9 shooting (both made shots were threes) 6 boards and 3 assists.
Versus Georgetown/Team USA, he only got 3 points on 1-7 shooting but again pulled in 6 rebounds and dished out 3 assists.
Thanks for sleuthing that. Lesson: Do not rely on AI for correct info on things like this. Yikes.
