Game 10: vs. Fresno State

The Broncos get a full week break before the last good OOC opponent. Bradley, at least per Torvik, is also on a long break getting prepped for the Broncos. It’ll be a Quad 2 game for both teams. Hopefully, the Broncos can use that time well.

Grist is good…
I have no heartburn with your lineup. But a couple of considerations:

  • Bryan was starting the first 4 games of the season the but was up and down…good games vs. St. Louis and N Dakota St. and very quiet games vs. ASU and Nevada (0 pts in each). He’s been more consistent since coming off the bench even with reduced minutes. And last season he came of the bench most of the time (started just 6 games) and was one of our more consistent producers. Maybe he’s one of those guys who just does better coming off the bench. And it is nice to have someone of with athletic ability and 3pt shooting providing a shot of energy off the bench.
  • I mentioned in one of the other threads that I believe Sendek is enamored with and blinded by the potential of Bal and I think he’d have to completely tank and/or display terrible effort or a bad attitude for Sendek to bench him. And while his shooting and overall play has been subpar, he hasn’t shot it as poorly as O’Neil. Seems Sendek and staff made a strategic decision last season and this to put the ball in his hands as much as possible; the results have been mixed at best. Bal may well realize his potential someday, but it may be 3 to 5 years from now as a pro in Europe. The clock is ticking on his time at SCU, just 22+ games left in a Bronco uniform, hopefully the potential turns in to consistent results sooner than later.

RE: O’Neil, his play hasn’t been all that bad. He has rebounded quite well, and I believe his +/- was double digits in the last game (not sure if it finished that way, it was +11 about 3/4ths through the game), suggesting his defense was good. Or rather, when he’s on the floor, the team’s defense is good. If he finds his shot, he’ll be in the lineup 20+ minutes per game.

92B, excellent job on your score prediction for this game!

Interesting that Stewart was the clear out ball handler rather than Bal at the end of the game. Not sure if that’s a permanent switch or based on matchups. Either way, I like it. I view Carlos as more unguardable than Bal, especially against a defender his size.

Carlos has certainly stepped up over the past 4 games. Averaging 17+ over those games, and just as important, with very efficient shooting. 12/21 from 3 (57%), shooting 63% overall and an eFG% of 79%, plus 9/10 from the FT line. The shooting #'s aren’t sustainable but it’s a nice hot streak against solid opponents and good to see him showing the flash of scoring punch we saw from him in 2022/23.
