LOL sure about that? They’re both very smart people, but Sendek has more experience and a better coaching staff (emphasis on coaching).
Maybe should have done some advance scouting.
Wasn’t that long ago a Sendek coached team beat USC. Before they hired the father of two McDonald’s All Americans to occupy a seat normally filled by an assistant coach.
SCU’s biggest accomplishment of the Sendek era… a 14 point loss to Gonzaga. Mission accomplished! Call up the Spokane Review and take out another full pager.
In contrast to the shot nurse, Mick Cronin is putting on a coaching clinic in the first half against Michigan.
A hard-working, coach’s son from a blue-collar city on the Ohio River. Sounds familiar.
Edit: hard to overstate how important this has been. He is running this game. He has done every game in the tournament (I’ve seen them all). He has gotten the game played on his terms with the matchups he wants.
Simply as well as one can coach a basketball game. Michigan missed their top outside shooting threat badly, but UCLA was a reflection of their coach.
The next round should be interesting. Cronin has never been to. a final four before, but he’s no debutante as a coach. It’s not a favorable matchup. He doesn’t have the big men you’d think you need to beat them, and Gonzaga has the length on the perimeter to bother their wings that have played favorable matchups the whole tournament. But I don’t think UCLA will give it away like USC did.
Gonzaga couldn’t have gotten an easier road to the title game if they had designed the tournament themselves.
Not off topic. Sarcasm is okay on this board. BB has always had a caustic style. But for everyone’s sake, it might be best if the two of you stopped directly addressing each other.
Or you could properly discipline him. It is not my responsibility to do that for you. I’m not going to just let him spread nonsense in parallel with reasonable discussion. If his response is to personally attack me or step outside the bounds of the thread to attack the program, then you should deal with that.
The topic is the NCAA tournament. The title makes that pretty clear. I reported every post that was not on that topic. Thus far I have gotten no indication that there will be any attempt at fair moderation, but I’m doing what I can.
Talking about SCU or the WCC in the context of the tournament makes sense, but beyond that, it’s just threadjacking even if it’s your own thread.
You call it caustic. I call it intentionally provocative and trolling.
In the meantime, I would recommend that people be directed toward the thread I set up for coach/program direction conversation vs. allowing people to poison threads with it.
Teams can only play what is in front of them. It is hardly Zags fault that Iowa, Kansas, Michigan lost. Just like it isn’t Houston’s but you only see Gonzaga’s road to Final Four as “easy”. And if UCLA played 5 games to get to FF, then they belong. Same as Zags.
I’m also not sure their draw has been particularly favorable? They got a 5 seed in the Sweet 16 where it’s not that rare to get a 12 seed, and USC in the Elite 8 was probably really the quality of a 2 or 3 seed. Plus this year they don’t get any of the home field advantage that the number 1 overall seed would usually get. Seems like a fairly normal draw so far to me.
Also worth mentioning: Among 6-16 seeds, 11 seeds share the most Final Four appearances (five appearances)
Since expansion to the 64-team format in 1985, five 11 seeds have made the Final Four. No other seeds 6 or worse have more than five appearances in that span. Only the 8 seeds share the same number of appearances.
Also, since you’ve provided some money data, it looks like the NCAA is getting hammered in the oral arguments of NCAA v Alston, which would lead to players getting a lot more $$ benefits, although the prospective payments would need some connection to education purpose.
I know the Zags negotiated a higher % than the rest of the wcc, so it is no longer devided equally. That was their deal to stay in wcc, rather than move to mwc.
It makes sense they get a bigger share, since they are the ones doing all the work. I have no problem with this at all. We will get lot of money for simply being in the same conference as them.
