A good article that explains why May 1st is an important deadline for the transfer portal. Basically, you have to enter the portal by May 1st to be immediately eligible without a waiver.
WCC transfer portal news…
USF senior guard Khalil Shabazz has gone portaling, the portal just told @Stadium.
— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanHoops) April 28, 2022
Averaged 13.7 points per game this past season.
Also, Jabe Mullins of SMC entered the portal.
The BYU exodus continues with Knight.
Related news…previously entered the portal, Gavin Baxter, landed at Utah.
And USD’s Marcellus Earlington entered the portal. 6-6, 240 wide body, 13.2pts, 6.7rebounds, with perimeter skills, can shoot the 3 @ 34%. Came to USD from St. Johns’s
Wouldn’t mind having him on our roster, but I assume he’s looking for a step up, P6, etc. for his final year of play.
BYU transfer Seneca Knight tells me that he's receiving interest from the following programs:

Reid is 5-star 7-0 center from the 2021 class. Will provide them with a true center they haven’t had.
Knight - we know him of course, 6-6 slashing wing, I guess you could play him and Justice together and have Justice slide to the 4.
Mounir Hima- 6-11 shot blocker, would provide another true center that we need IMO to back up Bediako. 2pts, 3rebs, 1block in just 10mins/game. 1st year player.
Aldridge is from a DII - 6-4 guard. 14pts, 5.rebounds, 4.5 assists 41% from 3…seems to be a playmaker but very high TO’s, ~4/game.
Alex Anderson- 1st year guy, 6-6 wing, 6+pts, 3.3 rebounds in ~25mins/game. Doesn’t shoot the 3 at all…0 makes. Maybe a defensive role player type off the bench???
Not a transfer but recruiting related, Verbal Commits added today that we have offered 2022 Kosy Akametu, 6-5 shooting guard from LA.
Has other offers from Sac State, IUPUI and Alabama A&M.
Great Sondheimer article about Kosy, who sounds like a very grounded young man.
Poking around, he’s also received offers from St Bonaventure an UI Chicago.
4 star recruit just last year… just barely outside the top 100 it appears
I’m extremely shocked and excited about this signing. My best bud went to Illinois for college so I’ve been aware of Podz coming out of high school. He didn’t get much of a run last year which shows in his stat line but I think this kid is going to be great in our system. He’s from Wisconsin so I think our favorite Keshawn Justice has something to do with this. Podz reminds of me of Tyler Herro or Jordan Poole. This will be exciting and now I want to see if Jalen decides to come back.
I would be surprised if Jalen comes back. Was listening to The Athletic mock draft and Sam Vecenie took him late in the first round. He seemed pretty confident that Jalen would “skyrocket through the process”. In addition to his skill and long arms, Vecenie really liked Jalen’s low center of gravity that allows him to finish through contact.
But I agree that Podziemski is a big signing for us. A young high ceiling Power 5 transfer that can shoot. I imagine he will play off the ball primarily but could maybe bring the ball up in certain situations. I like that both Marshall Jr and Podziemski are capable from the 3pt line. It at least gives you a chance most nights when you have 4 or 5 guys on the court that can hit the 3. I also believe Holt and Tongue will be good 3 point shooters as they get more predictable minutes each night.
Podziemski signing is great news and look forward to watching him for the next three years hopefully. With he and Marshall added to the fold, and assuming Jalen doesn’t return…2 open scholarship slots remain?
