New WCC Commissioner: Stu Jackson

It looks like Stu Jackson will be the next WCC Commissioner.

  • Jackson joins the WCC after serving as the Big East’s executive associate commissioner of men’s basketball since 2019. Prior to that, he worked as the conference’s senior associate commissioner.
  • He was executive vice president of the NBA from 2000 to 2013 and was president and general manager of the Vancouver Grizzlies from 1994 to 2000.

An interesting, name hire.
Given his connections and background, I wouldn’t expect him to stick around long, but we’ll see.

He seems like the right hire on paper. I would love for him to get some sort of WCC-MWC basketball alliance going. Hell, with the Pac-12 on life support, maybe they would be willing to actually do a scheduling agreement with the conference.

Hopefully we get at least a few years out of Mr. Jackson as commissioner. He knows what it takes to get to and maintain a Big East quality league. The WCC isn’t there, but he could be a catalyst for driving it two steps further in that direction. I wish him luck.
