OOC Game 10: @ New Mexico

Yikes we lost the plot at the 12min mark

It’s all the more frustrating given that UNM’s own deficiencies are pretty easy to see.

Getting smoked…..taking quick 3’s and missing then not hustling and getting back on D. Going to be tough to overcome a 16 pt deficit in the hostile environment.
Hopefully, we at least put up a fight, and clean up some of the bad decisions, TO’s, dumb fouls.

Just give it to Hammond every time… nobody else showed up

When did the Broncos get to ABQ? Yesterday? If so, that would have been another dumb coaching move. Acclimating to altitude takes more than one night.

I had this thought, too. And UNM just played a non-D1 team this week. You can tell they’ve been preparing for the Broncos all week. And SCU left its game somewhere in the South Bay.

I don’t want to say that yet. Santa Clara has time and if we can go on a run and NM falls back to their shooting at the start, we can claw back.

AGREED. Hammond is the only one with any touch right now. Everyone else throwing up bricks.

Isn’t Hammond from Denver? He’s accustomed to the altitude.

Hammond just going to try to beat them by himself. Might be our only chance.

11 points in 5 minutes of gametime since I sent this… I take full credit

Knapper is getting beaten badly with dribble penetration.

Mahi taking last shot is not ideal.

no wonder this broadcast blows, its a radio simulcast

in that case, not fair to the radio guy for having to work two crowds at once

This reminds me of last year’s Nevada game where the Broncos are making a merely decent MWC team look like all stars on their home floor.

UNM isn’t even as good as Nevada and is way worse than McNeese and SLU. But Santa Clara is letting them dominate.

Same Broncos we’ve seen all season. Too many fouls, too many turnovers, terrible transition defense, way too many free throws and zero adjustments

The broadcast blows because the announcers are such homers they make Kruk and Kuip sound like unbiased observers. And they don’t know sh*t about SCU. The color guy literally said the Broncos don’t want up tempo they want to slow the game down!

All that being said, if 2 players can elevate their game in the second half… we’re right in it

They flew out Friday. Leaving on Thursday wouldn’t have made a difference takes longer than 48 hours to acclimatize

I respectfully but wholeheartedly disagree. Every time I visit my friends in Denver, the day after the second night of good sleep is much much much better than the day after the first night. Makes a huge difference.

Remembered some info I read a while back reading about how the US men’s soccer team deals with altitude in the lead up to playing in Mexico City for World Cup qualifying a few years ago. When they can, they try to play the game before in Denver. But regardless, they typically fly in the day before since that’s what experts advise. Of course it can vary person to person.
