1-8 from Carlos put the nail in our coffin.

Should’ve gone with these guys for final five

Cam at 5
Johnny at 4
Jake at 3
Mahi at 2
BK at 1

his decision making was brutal

lots of guys did their part, Jake, Johnny, Cam but can’t have Los Bryan and Mahi either absent or inefficent when you’re down players

Carlos didn’t play well tonight. He lacks a mid range game. You rarely see him pull up from 12-15 ft. Overall, I applaud the effort being shorthanded, and we seem to play the Gaels tougher in Moraga.

The result isn’t what we wanted but it gives me hope in Vegas if we see them again.

Given the situation, the guys played their asses off. Showing a little pressure in the 2h worked and SMC hit some key tough shots as good teams too.

That was honestly an acceptable result (if you beat NDSU/Stanford/ LMU or USF). We didn’t have that luxury so it ultimately doesn’t matter.

Close the rest of the way and drop only 1 game and take your shot in Vegas.

The mid range game was Carlos’s best skill set before he left. Analytics would say it’s the worst shot in Hoop and I think he’s been asked to tone it down.

Honestly, it’s hard to feel too mad about that one. They played so hard. O’Neil and Jake were heroes. And that was one of Sendek’s best. The Broncos played without a center for basically 25 minutes and without their two leading scorers the whole game. There was still a chance to win it down the stretch. If Carlos and Mahi played a bit better on the offensive end, who knows. The coaches put them in position, though.

Had to play perfect without Bal and Tilly, we were far from that.

Still, all the guys on the court tonight left it all out there. I have so much respect for how they fought - especially our frontcourt dealing with adversity.

Credit the Broncos playing hard shorthanded.

Yet, another Master Class by Randy Bennett. Knowing we’re thin at the 5 he went with Saxon and Wessels with Murauskas ailing and got the calls he wanted. With Bal out, he also locked up Carlos, Bryan, and Mahi multiple defenders preventing good looks and forcing Cam, O’Neill, Jake and BK to beat them - which they almost did.
On our side, We didn’t do much different on offense and defense other than a little pressing. Carlos, Bryan, and Mahi tried to force the issue and a barrage of low percentage shots and TO’s followed. I think Carlos had 4 shots blocked at the rim and just kept at it.
Need to finish 3-1 and make some noise in the WCC tourney.

Yeah, he can pull up. I agree that he was coached not to. And I think the results mostly reflect that being the right decision. Though I wish against the Gaels that they incorporated the occasional runner or jump stop to a push shot in the key. No need for 12-15 footers, but once our guards are 7 ft from the hoop, they should be able to shoot greater than 50%. There were a lot of possessions where Tyeree or Mahi would get stopped right in the middle of the key with no good pass. If a couple of those are runners or jumpers, maybe that’s worth a few extra points…And yeah, Saxen or Wessels probably blocks a couple too. But for every couple of blocks, there’s likely at least one foul which would make it all worth it.

In the end, losing sucks. But I lament the last second foul against NDSU, allowing for overtime, and the missed foul shouts in the last minute that let Stanford steal the win much more than a severely undermanned close loss in Moraga.

There has been a lot of talk on this thread about the bigs, but honestly, that was all expected. I thought our guys did an admirable job defensively, with a shoutout to O’Neil, Jake, and Bukky sharing some of the punishment with Cam.

I thought Marciulonis and Lewis were the true x-factors in this game. We had no answer for either. A true lockdown defender, like Troy Payne, would’ve helped.

Cams first two fouls were totally fouls. Except foul 3 they called a flop and foul 4 (same situation) they called a block.

So what do you do?

I think the team as a whole showed up last night. No 30-0 scoreless stretch. Tied up with 2:56 left in the game.

Some better decision making and you walk away at St Mary’s with the win.
