2024 Recruits

They won the state title yesterday. Mahi had 16 of their 55. 36-0 season I believe. Their coach has a great bio on the website. Assistant at SMC and USF if I recall he played at UC Davis.

I just watched the semi final vs Yuba - I didnā€™t check out any season stats. Based on what I saw, I would be surprised if heā€™s a good 3 point shooter. I just checked and saw WEst Valley won the championship today. Mahi had 30 points, 4 rebounds, an assist and 4 turnovers. He didnā€™t miss a free throw in either the final or semi (13-13). With that final performance, he had to be the tournament MVP.

Graves gets the Louisiana Gatorade POY. Carlos Stewart was the Gatorade POY for Louisiana as well. The LA ā†’ SCU pipeline is strong, just not the one you usually think of. :joy:

Fingers crossed this LA Connection 2.0 lasts more than 2 seasons.

Will be interesting to see if Carlos stays at LSU next season. Their coach will be in his third season and needs to win big next year. I am sure they will be extremely aggressive in the portal.

I hope we told Carlos on the way out that we would leave the light on for him.

While I would love for Carlos to come back to SCU, it was my understanding that he left due to some family issues? Maybe it was a close family member who was quite ill? My memory is a bit fuzzy.

Buckets, maybe youā€™re confusing ILL with NIL. I thought he left for a big payday.

Very possible that Iā€™m wrong and youā€™re right. Thanks for clarifying.

Brings up a good point, though. Given all of the extreme wealth in Silicon Valley, Iā€™d think we could get some tech execs to shell out some NIL cash to our players.

All double or triple hearsay, but I believe that Carlos left primarily for NIL. I have also heard from more authoritative sources that LSU has one of the largest, if not the largest, NIL war chests in the country that is spread around to sports beyond football and even menā€™s basketball. I believe the highest paid college athlete in the country is an LSU gymnast, and the LSU womenā€™s team is cashing in quite a bit as well.

All of which is to say that even with a very respectable NIL collective at SCU for a school of its size (which I assume SCU has), there is no competing with LSU in a pure cash offer.

Top 100 JC players are listed with Mahi ranked #17 in the country. I would have to think that he may quite probably be the highest rated JC player to sign with the Broncos.

Iā€™m sure that he was highly coveted by other schools including from Power 6 conferences (Big East included).

Excited to see him play, Graves too!!

letā€™s hope that he sticks with his commitment

Yes. Yes. We all seem to be forgetting that we also have some terrific talent waiting to reveal themselves on the courtā€“add Bukky and Luke with Allen and Mahi and I think we are going to see some amazing outcomes from players not even in most of our discussions. Our recuriting is at a high level. Three Gatorade Players of the Year, etc. Go Broncos. .

Way ahead of my skis here, but noticed on VerbalCommits we do not have any commits from HS in 2025.

I know itā€™s early AND transfers are almost the priority going forward, but with 5 players on their last year of eligibility next season, we are going to have a huge hole to fill.

ALL IN on this next season.

I wouldnā€™t be worried about 2025 recruitingā€¦at least not yet. Most HS recruits donā€™t commit until sometime between mid-summer prior to their Senior year and the following Spring.

And, scrolling through this thread againā€¦LetsGoā€™s post re: Stewart above was prescient.

Times are different. If I was a high school kid who was legit, Iā€™d want to wait to get an idea of what a team will look like.

Portal changes everything. Getting 4-5 guys in portal probably more productive than HS kids at this rate.

With the number of returning players on our team, I am definitely curious about Elijahā€™s potential impact. He appears to be a solid shooting, high energy, above the rim type player. A Carlos Marshall Jr replacement if his game translates from JUCO to D1, which Iā€™m betting it will.

Excited to see what Mahi brings to the Broncos.
Iā€™d typically be a little cautious about expecting JUCO guys to have an impact from Day 1, as sometimes their JUCO success doesnā€™t translate or they need time to adjust. But in Mahiā€™s case, his international experience playing for Canada mitigates that concern, at least for me.

That said, if everyone is healthy, there will be a log jam for PT at on the wing (2 and 3 spots). Lots of competition and a player or two are likely to be disappointed with their PT. Bal, Mahi, Bryan, Ensminger all competing for minutes, not to mention Stewart could play the 2 with Knapper at the 1 and Oā€™Neil can slide down from the 4 to play the 3 some.
Similar to last year, itā€™s going to be interesting to see how the minutes and lineups shake out.

For me, Ensminger is the key to putting it all together. He had the highest offensive rating on Torvik last season, I believe, because he does a great job facilitating winning plays. The team will have tons of potential firepower. But Ensminger, and Knapper in his own way, will have to be the connective tissue that makes it all go.
