Unfortunately, the SCU website confirms that there’s no livestream or even live stats for this one. It’s an open scrimmage/exhibition, though. Hopefully a few locals are in attendance and some word makes it back here other than the final result.
We will start doing actual previews for the games that count, but for now, here’s a thread for any observations and conclusions. I wish I could be in the South Bay for a first look at the Broncos!
Yes, if anyone at the game is able to provide live insights it would be much appreciated. Stanford should be no worse than a bubble team so will be a good test even if substitution patterns are not consistent with a regular season game. Should Mahi and Cochran be out, my biggest concern is perimeter/wing size and scoring.
Encouraging to hear about Noah. Had no idea what to expect from him. Maybe Darlan benefited from the stability of being in one place for multiple seasons?
Santa Clara wins 83-78 in seesaw battle. Agree with Lucas on everything. Brayde played like seasoned senior vet, scored 15-20. Jake had 14 with11 boards. He was an aggressive shooter tonight.Noah is a "“player”, in the Darlin mode and will be big contributor this year. in my view, Brayde and Jake were the co stars of the game. Gueye started b ut tadjo and Francis also played to make it a trio at center. No one stood out of the 3 however. Broncos committed way too many fouls which led to many standford freethrow points.
Longcor I believe made the shot that put Broncos in the lead or won the game at the end, showed flashes of excellence but not consistently during game. I need to see more of him to give a firm opinion.
Longcor was really trying to force things in the 2nd half. But he had 8 huge points in the final 4 minutes. He was clutch.
Noah cooled off in the 2nd half but looks to be a defense and energy guy. The Thierry comp from last season is a good call.
Omg the fouls!!! Stanford shot 40+ free throws while the Broncos shot 15 maybe 20. Both Thierry & Noah fouled out. There were five other Broncos with 4 fouls.
Overall a great effort from the Broncos especially considering they were missing 3 maybe 4 guys you figure will be playing significant minutes: Sash, Elijah, KJ & David
The only players suited up who didn’t play were Fedor & Alex
Was there. Lucas summary is accurate. Stanford had the 15th best transfer class with 3 outstanding guards. We were without the 4 Lucas mentioned and Stanford was without one of their starters and best scorer’s.
Stanford shot 46 free throws making about 37 on about 38-40 Bronco fouls. Our aggressiveness was non-stop, but undisciplined. Basically giving Stanford 46 chances on a 70% FT vs 45% blended FG/3pt percentage…
We did create about 20 turnovers and decisively won the offensive rebounding battle.
A lot to be happy and a lot to clean up.
Considering we played 4 Freshman, 2 true Freshman and 2 redshirt Frosh beating Stanford with a clutch comeback the last 3 minutes was great to see. Longcor had a rough night but was clutch when it mattered and a preview of what he can be capable of.
At the end I think we wore them down with our nonstop pressure.
