Tip-off: Tuesday, 7pm, @ Leavey TV: ESPN+ Line: Torvik- Broncos -8, 76% win probability ESPN- no line yet, 73% win prob
Riverside:
The Highlanders are 2-2 including a win over non-D1 LaSierra, a 1pt win over Cal Baptist and losses to BYU and Oregon.
Starters:
6-0 guard Barrington Hargress (19.3 pts, 3.8assists, 42% from 3)
6-1 guard Isaiah (13.5pts, 4assists, 38.5 % from 3)
6-5 wing Niyi Olabode (3pts, 5rebs)
6-9 forward Kaleb Smith (14pts, 3.8 rebs)
6-10 Joel Armotrading (5.8pts, 5rebs, 1 block)
There’s nothing exceptional about Riverside, so far, they’ve been mediocre to poor in most statistical categories. Hargress is a volume shooter, Stewart or Bryan may get the assignment and will need to stick to him and make him work for his shots.
The Highlanders don’t rebound well at either end of the floor and they are small in the backcourt and on the wings; this is a game where the Broncos should dominate on the boards.
It will be interesting to see if Sendek continues to extend the rotation and give both Akametu and Oboye some minutes.
The Broncos desperately need to get their mojo back and this is a good opportunity to start to rebuild some confidence.
Prediction: Broncos get back in the win column, 81-71.
Look for the Highlanders to take a lot of threes to start, just to see if SCU can provide any defense at the perimeter. I think the Broncos have a get right game. This team is woefully underperforming its talent, but this isn’t 2022 Louisville, and Sendek ain’t Kenny Payne. I still think this is an 18-win team. But they should be a 23-win team.
81-63 Broncos. O’Neil finally gets hot and goes 4-6 from three.
It’s DEFINITELY coaching. Cam has been in for THREE MINUTES. He LEADS in rebounds. And NOW he is sitting!
I’m 100% convinced Herb likes the SOFTER lineups. He doesn’t want a gritty team that will fight. Or he just has his favorites and even if non performing - doesn’t matter.
Here at game. Score is misleading. We have so much to work on and will get a false sense of security from a game like this. Same bad habits from Coaching Staff. Still lots of work to be done. Stanford concerns me.
Just don’t check the tape on the other 98% of my guesses
While the vibes are a little better, remember to help us keep the board going. We are a little over 1/3 of the way there for our goal and would love to see us be able to keep our little community going.
Really needed a game like this, even if for nothing else but my own sanity. This is what we’re supposed to do against a team like this. This is what should’ve happened against NDSU.
Nobody is comparing UCR to Nevada, but UCR was more competitive against Oregon and BYU. Credit where credit is due. Tonight, Broncos looked the part and dominated.
I really feel that if they can find away to play with energy and intensity defensively this season, that will compensate on nights when shots aren’t falling. This team is more than capable of playing well defensively. Tonight was a start IMO.
great stuff today. Can’t get it back all in one day but sets them on the right path for what I’m sure will be energized Stanford matchup for players and fans alike. Gotta make life tough on Maxime Raynaud and hope Kyle Smith still isn’t the boogeyman
Stanford hasn’t left Maples yet, and their 4 wins have come against Denver, Fullerton, Northern Az, and Davis, with Norfolk State on Wed. Lets see what happens when they travel a few miles down the road.
