Game 5: vs. Miss Valley State

Tip-off: Monday, 7pm @ Leavey
Line: Torvik- Broncos -20, 96% win probability; ESPN- 97% win prob., no line yet.

Miss Valley State:
The Delta Devils are 0-4 on the season and ranked #352 on Torvik. But all loses have been to Power conf teams on the road: LSU, Oklahoma, UConn, TCU. Like Many SWAC schools they are spending most of the non-con on the road play guaranteed pay games to pay the bills; in fact the Delta Devils have 0 non-con home games.
Their top players:

  • 6-6 wing Rayquan Brown (16.5pts, 5.5rebs)
  • 5-11 guard Donovan Sanders (9.8pts, 1.8assits,
  • 6-7 wing Arecko Gibson (9pts, 3rebs)

MVSU has no one over 6-8 in their playing rotation, and haven’t shot the 3 well (26%), and it’s hard to find anything the Delta Devils do well or even OK statistically.

After the lackluster SE Louisiana showing the Broncos need to get their mojo back heading to the Emerald Coast Classic tourney starting with UofO on Friday.
The Broncos allowed SE LA to control the pace and turn the game in to a low possession grinder. The Broncos instead need to play at their preferred tempo while controlling the glass vs. the smaller Delta Devils. We also need to pound the ball inside as we did in the 2nd half for SE LA.

And hoping to see better FT shooting from the Broncos…5/11 (46%) vs. SE LA almost cost us the game.

Prediction: Broncos cover, 80-57.

p.s.- I’ll be traveling for next 10 days and likely without internet, so I’m turning the reigns over to whoever would like to start game threads through at least the Menlo game on 11/29.

I wonder if Jerry Rice will be there in person to watch his alma mater play our Broncos?

JR has been there in the past. Sitting right behind the team.

Torvik might have our boys at -20, but my sports book is showing -27.

Not sure I have the stones to lay 27, even to a team ranked 352.

Okay, that’s the kind of half I was expecting this past Saturday. Leading 44-26 at halftime

Good 1st half against a very inferior opponent. I do find a lack of scoring from Benjamin a concern to start the season. I expected that we were getting a PG on par with PJ Pipes. So far, I don’t see Benjamin as a real scoring threat, but hope I’m wrong.

Play Cam, Knapper, and Kosy in the second half. These kids need and deserve the minutes.

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to all on this board and your families.

May we feast on some Oregon Duck.
