NBA Summer League

For those who want a break from the World Cup the OKC Thunder Summer League team tips off at 12pm PST on ESPNU. Have a chance to catch Elijah Mahi & Christoph Tilly in action. They play the Grizzlies but Adama Bal does not appear on their roster.

Elijah did not play on July 4th but Tilly had 20 minutes and 10 points..

2nd Thunder game recap: Mahi did not play, Tilly played 17 minutes and 4 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound and a steal.

Seems as if Mahi is just a roster spot at the moment. Hopefully later in Summer League he gets some run after the Thunder have looked at their draft picks and guys on contract

Thunder play again tonight 7/7 at 6pm on ESPNU.

In the last SLC summer league Tilly started and Mahi got a little bit of garbage time run.

In today’s Vegas Summer League Johnny O’Neil DNP for the Pelicans.

Tomorrow night 7/10 the Raptors and Allen Graves should make his NBA Summer League debut at 6pm PST/9pm EST on ESPN

Im watching the Dubs-Mavs Summer League game, which included a Podz interview. Both he and color man Seth Greenberg waxed effusive about Herb and his ability to prepare players for the NBA. Nice free advertising.

Just finished watching the Raptor/Celtic game. Nice debut from Graves, Toronto’s leading scorer with 22 pts (3/8 from 3), 13 rb, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Seemed to be closing out well on defense and was active all around the floor.

interesting side notes - Celtics leading scorer was Amari Williams from Kentucky, with 23. Toronto’s bench included Malik Thomas, formerly of USF, who did not see any action.

Graves has a nice NBA Summer League debut. He had some tough rebounds and played hard. Looked like he belonged on an NBA court.

Tilly had another solid performance for the Thunder. Could see him being similar to Keyshawn Justice. Play a few seasons in the G League before moving onto Europe. Mahi did not play in this game.

For those interested in today’s games, 7/11 the Pelicans (Johnny O’Neil) play at 1pm and Raptors (Graves) play at 6:30pm

Johnny O’Neil does not appear to be suited up for today’s Summer League game

Tougher 2nd game for Allen. Overall if you were just to look at his box score you’d think it was another solid performance. But watching the game you saw the negatives scouts observed. Too many fouls, he had 6, you get 10 in Summer League. Seemed like defensively he was bothered by the athleticism and uptick in skill level.

Thunder play Warriors at 3pm. Expect Tilly to play 15-20 minutes and hopefully Mahi gets some run

Graves had a coming out game last night… 23 points 6 board and a few assists, steals and blocks.

He’s now shooting 50-50-100 and raptors fans are very high on him so far. He’ll find a role if he can keep that 3pt shooting pct up.

He also played smart solid D, forcing turnovers and rotating well. He’s looked better early than I expected. As Lucas observed, he’s going to have issues with the athleticism and physicality of some players, and Summer League isn’t the NBA, but I was impressed.

Self awareness is one of the most important traits I think anyone can have. He has it. All the confidence in the world but he’s not trying to go outside of what he is. And he can be SO good if he sticks to what he’s good at.

That’s valuable in itself.

It looks like the raptors and thunder have seen enough from Graves and Tilly, both didn’t play in the finale.

Mahi getting a little run from the thunder tonight.

Big summer for Graves. He excelled in Vegas and announced today he’s gonna be a father. Allen & his wife are expecting a baby in January.

As for the other Bronco summer leaguers, Tilly was solid and should make the Thunder G League team. Mahi didn’t play much so he’s probably headed to Europe. Johnny O’Neil was injured I believe cuz he never suited up for the Pelicans. But had a solid season last year so he should be on their G league team. Still trying to figure out why Adama Bal didn’t participate in Summer League
