Knapper is having a really good game!
honestly he’s been my POTG, doing a little bit of everything
7 and 5 in 14 minutes
I applaud the effort as the boys played hard and shorthanded. It may be time to put the at large chatter to bed unless we beat Gaels next week.
OSU was the better team today. They put on a clinic from the line too.
21 for 22
Didn’t do anything particularly well. A good few minute stretch mid/late 2nd half but that’s it.
Gave up 51 2nd half points, that won’t cut it.
Hope Bryan and Cam can get healthy for SMC.
Herb needs to bring in a defensive coach- defense has been bad for years!!
Weirdly even game statistically for a 14 point loss. Basically OSU’s physicality put the Broncos on their heels all game. A ton of hustle plays, especially by Minor and Rataj kept the Beavers mostly out of reach. Rataj hit a couple of pretty amazing three pointers down the stretch to kill any SCU run, but this just looked like the Broncos weren’t ready to match the Beavers’ toughness.
Yes, fairly even on certain stats (shooting, rebounding), but key differences in a few……OSU outscored us 21-10 at the FT line.
And OSU had 6 fewer TO’s (13-7); combine that w/ +1 in offensive rebounding for OSU and that translates to net +7 possessions for OSU. This is a key metric I always look at, possession differential, though I’ve never heard anyone articulate it in that manner. Having more possessions than opposing team is clearly an advantage. On average teams score a little more than 1pt per possession….more possessions = more points.
Cam does not qualify for any “lack of toughness” observation. lol
He FOUGHT with tenacity last night. And his body paid the price. (He is questionable for Weds)
If his team does not find the toughness and tenacity that he brings EVERY GAME - we will continue to get bullied on the floor.
I was looking forward to his teamates rallying after his last injury (total of three last night) and was happy to see his roomie BK step up. But was let down that the whole squad didn’t pick up on that energy.
Hate to see Cam get roughed up like that. The refs were letting OSU foul with impunity. Hope Cam heals up soon and can play. Also hope Teyeree and Adama are in good shape for St. Mary’s. We need those three great players to be able to vanquish the Gaels.
Adama went back in - so he was fortunately able to shake off whatever twist he endured. YES - the Oregon whistle was in full force.
Besides their excellent free throw shooting, the Beaves also had the best player on the court that night with Rataj. That’s two ways you win close games.
It will depend on how high OSU finishes, but Rataj deserves consideration for WCC POY. We had no answer for him and no one could guard him. Torvik rates him highest during WCC play by a fairly wide margin.
Haven’t seen anyone else in the WCC this season who is as difficult to contain as him. Marciulonis is great but not as dominate as Rataj. Malik Thomas will get consideration, but he’s a high volume shooter who takes a lot of bad shots IMO. Beyond that it’s probably Nembhard and Ike who will get votes.
