WCC Game 9: vs. USD

Pretty simple. Santa Clara is a turnover machine every game and tonight our 3pt shooting didn’t bail us out despite a huge disparity on rebounds. This isn’t on the refs. We play wildly out of control and make dumb mistakes.

Drop the “may”, the Bronos need a coaching change, be it at the top or at the assistant level. This isn’t working…

I thank almost all for your passionate, unselfish support of Bronco basketball and enjoy the discussions on how to improve the program. However this board has become too embarrassing for me so I’ll check back in a couple seasons.

Please reconsider. Your insight is helpful and you have no grudges like some posters seem to have.

I agree on every point made. But I am convinced after watching that one live yesterday - Santa Clara has no rope and San Diego did. That impacts a players performance.

One thing Santa Clara needs to work on is mental toughness to fight through situations like that.

It’s fine to disagree that you feel it was our performance. In that I agree. Performance was horrific.

But where we disagree is that I feel it has to do with the officiating allowing one side to be more fluid (San Diego) and putting the hammer on the other (Santa Clara). That impacts game. Im assuming MOST of us are all former ball players. I’m 100% certain we have all been in this predicament and know the toll that can take.

It’s easy to get discouraged mentally and it takes maturity and mental toughness. And I’m SURE you believe I think my kid can do no wrong. But here is a fun fact. Up until last year - my kid was HORRIBLE at mental toughness. It is just this year he has figured that part out.

But really no need to toss insults and then say you are now walking. Why can’t be adults and agree to disagree?

Jerry, please stick around. There’s consensus on here who enjoy your insight and opinion. The chatter can’t be that embarrassing for you to just walk away. Embarrassing applies more to our team’s play than offensive commentary on this blog.

Last night’s loss dropped the Broncos 9 spots in both the NET (112) and Torvik (138). With the season about 75% complete, you’ll see less significant changes from day to day as the overall sample size is larger and each game has less impact on whole.

Re: 3pt shooting. Depending on what stats you look at, we’re tops in all games, but 2nd or 3rd on Torvik when the our 17/29 vs. non-D1 Menlo is removed. But more importantly, there isn’t much difference between the top ranked teams and the 6th place team, ~1.5%, so we don’t have a monumental or clear advantage in this area.

And…‘Live by the 3, Die by the 3’…last night we died.
Also worth noting that the top two teams in the league, SMC and GU are 8th and 7th respectively in the league in 3pt %. And lowly Portland leads the league made 3’s/game. In other words…3’s aren’t necessarily the path to success.

92, I think that old adage has some truth. Our loss to USD is similar to Gonzaga’s loss to us when they were 2 for 20 from beyond the arc.
